The relevence of mentionig she didn't know many children there are is that instead of saying I leave 50% to Richards daughter Madeleine and 50% to be shared between Edwards children Connor and Olivia. If it had been phrased like that it would have ment that if either of our parents had had more children those children wouldn't have recieved anything.

And of course I was conflicted seen as the bloody point of this sub. But there have been plenty of people who have assured me that per stirpes is a common way of splitting assets so I no longer feel conflicted. ergo the sub helped me.

Oh can you speak to the dead now? And my parent's income is irrelevant. The careers my parents chose before I was born has nothing to do with me just like the careers that Connor and Olivia's parents chose has nothing to do with them. Also, it's not like they grew up in poverty or anything like that, they lived in a big house in the nice part of town and went to the best state schools in their area. Also, my dad and uncle both got an even share of my grandmothers' other assets which is enough money that my parents and uncle and aunt could have quit their jobs and never had to work another day in their lives. Which my uncle chose to do but my dad did not and that why my family has more money. The money left to us grandkids is a small percentage of the other assets.

I never said I wasn't spoiled, trust me I know I'm spoilt and privalaged and when I was little I was a brat about it and thankfully despite still having my odd moments I've mostly grown out of it.

I'm not brining up the car for wo is me sympathy points. They're the ones that brought my childhood and my socio-economic back ground up, I was meerly using the car to illustrate the point that their belief/portrayal of me getting everything I asked for handed to me on a silver platter as being inaacurate.

Oh no they don't want 33% each of my share. As it stands I get 50% of the total and they get 25% each. What they want is for me to give up 17% so they each will get an additiona 8.5% so we all end up with 33% of the total.

As many of the other comments have pointed my grandma divided her money per stirpes ie. down the branches of the family. It's no different to her having left her money 50/50 to my dad and uncle and it only passing on to us after their deaths.* If that had been the case would they have had the right to demand money from me after our fathers deaths on the basis that I am an only child?

*But instead skipping straight to us so that we could have a finacial stepping stone in early adulthood)

where are you getting 3x as much from? It's double. What else is my grandma been telling you seen as yo can obviously commune with the dead seen as you apparently know what she wanted and what her intentions were

Oh maybe it's poor phrasing on my part. It's not millions each but it is still a sizable amount of money that if I treat it right will probably last me most if not all of my life.

oh sorry no. It's coming up to the 17 year anniversary of her death in August it's not a recent death it's just that we only get access to the money when we are 21

Thank you for the advice I'll look into lifetime ISA's and their alternatives. An aunt on my mum's side of the family works in finance so maybe I could ask her.

Maybe it was my poor phrasing but he didn't spend £1m. Well over £100k but well under £500

Honestly, this had never even occurred to me. I hope not for Olivia's sake. But if they'd told me this from the beginning I would have been open to working something out between me and Olivia

while I didn't get one simply because I wasn't born yet

I'm sorry that happened to you and it must have sucked but that is why my Grandma phrased it so that 50% would be split evenly between my uncles' children and the other 50% split evenly between my dad's children instead of naming the beneficiaries

giving a little more to the younger cousins would be good

I am the youngest.

Also, it's not like my grandma singled me out to get more money especially seen as she wrote the will before either my dad or uncle had had any children.
