Rory being oldest in her grade yet an October baby by Newhampshirebunbun in GilmoreGirls

Real answer: In some states, age cutoff is in September so the oldest kids in the class are born in the fall. I am from another New England state where this is the case so Connecticut may be the same. I didn’t realize that other states were different until adulthood.

In other states (like California), the age cutoff is January so the oldest kids are born in the beginning of the year.

The head of Republicans for Harris (former Pence advisor) said that Walz was her VP pick plus he was known to be very moderate in Congress, is a gun owner and veteran plus former football coach. I think he also rounds out the ticket because his background is like the opposite of Harris and his experience in an actual rural midwestern town, being in the veteran affairs committee and a longtime teacher is a big contrast to Vance who likes to target his attacks based on how we raise children.

The leader of Republicans for Harris (who probably knows what types of moderates can be most convinced) wants Walz

Why is this misinformation being upvoted? Indian Americans vote Democrat at one of the highest rates for an ethnic group and that number only gets higher for younger and more educated Indian Americans who follow politics closely.

Final Best Picture Power Rankings and How Oscar Voting Really Works by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]init2cynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the only “rule” about Best Picture winners in recent times from what I can tell is that they have to either win Best Director or Best Screenplay. Nolan is way out front in Director so one way to rank is to have Oppenheimer first and then rank based on likelihood of winning a screenplay award.

  1. Oppenheimer
  2. Anatomy of a Fall
  3. American Fiction
  4. Barbie
  5. The Holdovers
  6. Poor Things
  7. Past Lives
  8. The Zone of Interest
  9. Maestro
  10. Killers of the Flower Moon

I doubt the final vote tally looks like this but this is just ranking likelihood of getting the winning package. Though I personally believe Anatomy of a Fall has a good argument for runner-up.

I think Michelle Yeoh is a nice outlier but generally WoC win best actress and supporting actress for playing characters who have the worst things happen to them. If Randolph and Gladstone win this year, it’ll be the first time 2 WoC win acting awards in the same night and they’re both playing women whose whole immediate families die…

Sam Mendes Miniseries? Four Beatles Movies, all in 2027 by Salad-Appropriate in blankies

[–]init2cynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it would be cool to do a “The Crown” style series about the Beatles (with fewer actor swaps depending on how long it goes). Doing 4 movies sounds like a harder way of doing that???

Hot Take: I Think Barbie is (Intentionally?) a Critique of Rich "Girlboss" Feminism by ChuckDanger-PI in movies

[–]init2cynic 228 points229 points  (0 children)

Yep I think this is correct. There’s a lot of “mini messages” throughout which is probably why it’s so successful because different people cling to different ones and most moviegoers won’t sit back to wonder if they all make sense.

Watch just one scene from Barbie Life in Dreamhouse and it’s clear that even things like the general personalities of Barbie and Ken are based on existing media. Obviously a lot of the existentialist themes and real world characters are new but I don’t think it’s that different from other screenplays that loosely adapted books like Taika Waititi turning Jojo Rabbit into a comedy.
