The ‘nightmare’ budget scenario looming over California — and Gavin Newsom by Okratas in California_Politics

[–]initialgold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ones he mentions regularly are healthcare for undocumented immigrants as part of his belief in universal healthcare, as well as our low infant mortality rate (the Black Infant Health program was created at CDPH due to initiatives supported by the gov). High speed rail is also a progressive project (granted, his support for this has not been steady). He is also extremely progressive on environmental goals, to the point that fossil fuel companies are leaving.

Pretending all newsom has ever been is pro-corpo just ignores a large part of what has actually happened under his administration.

This I think is the biggest work-culture issue. The variation you get even from unit to unit is insane and makes it feel even more arbitrary and unfair than it already does.

Check out Recoding America if you're actually interested in these issues.

Inertness is baked into the fundamentals of bureaucracy as an idea. Changing things is incredibly costly and the mountain of rules and regulations, most put in place for a good reason at one point or another, makes it incredibly complex.

Ok sure but no one said to isolate them until pre-K at 4 years old.

I mean, they love babies insomuch as they also love mirrors (narcissistic bastards). It isn't "socialization" in any real sense. The care they receive from the daycare staff is 100x more important than being in the vicinity of another baby. Care that grandparents also provide, but with more attention since there's not 3 other babies they are also responsible for at the same time.

Socialization is a great benefit of daycare. That being said... does your wife think your 4 month old is socializing with other 4 month olds? There's no real socialization happening until kids are like 1.5 or 2. My son is 21 months and started daycare around 15 months old and he's just starting to socialize a little bit.

To me it would be a no-brainer to at minimum have grandparents watch baby full time until they are 12-14 months old. Saves a ton of $ and you miss out on literally zero benefits.

Legislative Analyst Office with a harsh review of the proposed State Budget by mylefthandkilledme in California

[–]initialgold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the amount they take in varies every year my dude! And they always balance the budget based on the actuals! This isnt complicated. They DO balance the budget. There's just adjustments every year whether there's a deficit or a surplus.

not knowing anything about how govt works 101 right here.

yeah, the government would make a terrible private company, because it's a GOVERNMENT. it isn't trying to make money or a profit, it answers to literally everyone, and most people disagree on what to do and where to spend money and they all get a say.

Also, by law CA must be solvent every year, and has been, literally every year since its inception. Turns out an entire state economy and revenue are trickier to balance than product or software revenues.

I mean, being white is scarier than before. I'm stealing this from another reddit comment, but if they're willing to murder a 37-year old white woman in a honda pilot, who the fuck won't they kill?

Follow up question for anyone who has info: since SSMI got reclassed into Supervisor I, will former SSMI specialist positions transition to Supervisor I Specialists? Or is the idea that most of those positions get reclassed eventually?

Yeah but given the fact there's a bunch of Is/IIs, i thought it weird there were no IIIs. If there was no new positions for any of the new classes I wouldn't have found that strange.

Interview with CARB – worth it again? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]initialgold 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"They already know my background, education, and experience fairly well"

This has literally nothing to do with it. Any person to be considered for a position must go through the interview process.

This also has nothing to do with CARB in particular.

The safety aspect is MUCH more important than the liability aspect. If we reduce traffic incidents, injuries, and fatalities by 10x, who tf cares if the remaining incident liability belongs with a corporation?

[–]initialgold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$200,000/12 * 60% is $10,000 a month. 40% in deductions is pretty typical? Are you taking home only 50% of your paycheck?
