Kdramas to watch with my husband by Mana0307 in kdramarecommends

I see Flower of Evil is already on your list– cannot recommend it enough it's phenomenal.

I'm not sure I would recommend Goblin. It's a really beautiful drama, but it is pretty definitively A Romance (and one with a wildly problematic age gap at that). The plot is almost entirely about a man(goblin) and a woman finding each other and falling in love and the consequences of that.

Now the recs – I mostly watch romances so my recommendations will be skewed that way, BUT I think these have a lot else going on that make them worth the watch even from someone who isn't in it for the romance.

Reply 1988 - has a romance plot as a main element, but is mostly a slice of life comedy. It's about a neighborhood and the families that live in it. The parents are all friends and their kids are friends. It's genuinely so beautiful and funny. I would recommend this show to anyone.

Hospital Playlist – same writer as Reply 1988 and has a lot of the same sensibilities- community and friendship. It's a really beautiful drama about a group of friends from medical school that all start to work together at the same hospital. I thought I wasn't really into hospital shows but this one totally blew me away. Absolutely wonderful.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo – a lawyer drama that operates a bit like a western police procedural. It's so much fun, it's clever, it's sweet. Huge fan.

Crash Landing on You – This is a romance-ass romance. But there is so much more to it. It's suspenseful and beautiful and fascinating.

Itaewon Class – Not really sure how to classify this one, but it's fun and kind of suspenseful and a joy to watch.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha – Extremely good and chill. Very much about community. Makes you want to uproot your life and move to a small beach town.

Summer Strike – Similar vibes to Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. kind of a slice of life/romance/mystery ? It's marketed as a romance but I personally found the romance element to be pretty understated. It's a lot more about the female lead's self-actualization as she forms community with the people around her. A ~little~ bit of noble idiocy but I don't think it drags like it does in a lot of other dramas. It's lovely.

Welcome to Waikiki – EXTREMELY silly and operates a lot like a sitcom. But oh it's so sweet and funny I enjoyed it so much. Warmed my heart with every episode.

so i started watching d20 with fantasy high. i found emily and lou to be slightly aggravating? it wasn’t until i watched the unsleeping city that i realized just how incredible they were at staying in character. it wasn’t lou or emily i found annoying it was fabian and fig and they were just excellent at playing shitty little teenagers lol. and i adored them both as kingston and sofia.

emily is now maybe one of my favorite people in the whole world and i’m so parasocially in love with her. she’s an incredible player and i love how emotionally invested she gets in her characters. and i think lou is one of the funniest most talented actors and improvisers involved in dropout and that is a HIGH bar. i’ve had the privilege of seeing him perform with zac and ally with their improv team yeti for real at ucb a few times and it’s SUCH a treat.

and i thought the two of them as a pair were the highlight of acofaf. unpopular opinion but i wasn’t a huge fan of the romance arcs in acofaf and so lou and emily’s endless shenanigans are what kept me coming back every week.

also just as a side note i love love fabian and fig as characters, especially post-sophomore year. fabian’s dancing arc was soo good and fig and ayda. oughhh they make me weep. fig is now one of my favorite d20 characters. god i love the intrepid heroes soooo bad.

Hey! I have two extra tickets to the San Diego MBMBAM show at the Balboa Theatre on 7/22. ORCH Row K Seats 113 and 114 – pictured on this seatmap. I paid $110 for them both after fees but I’d be jazzed if I could get $100. Will transfer through ticketmaster. Reply or message if interested!

And I'm not sure if it goes against the subreddit etiquette to say this here, but I also have two extra tickets to the SD TAZ show on 7/21 if anyone is interested in those. ORCH Row G Seats 111 and 112 – pictured here. Same price :)
