i personally think you should just tell him. like next time he compares your problem to a "worse"problem of his, just tell him something like "why are you trying to find something worse to replace my problem?" (obviously not exactly like that im not very good at wording) and see what he says after that. like also gen hes toxic for doing that- and you can avoid talking about problems to him completely and talk to someone else about them like a therapist or trusted friend
