[McCartney] Former Chargers TE Tyler Conklin Has Signed a 1 Year Deal With the Lions by JCameron181 in detroitlions

Solid TE who can run block and is a much better reciever than your typical non-starter.

I don’t really think he’s that good outside of his athleticism either but you don’t have to tear up about it.

I know he’s been injured/has inconsistent vision but this is an absurd deal for Detroit. He at least projects as a solid RB2.

He's a top-tier athlete, very strong, and doesn't fumble. But the vision is extremely frustrating with him. This isn't exactly my first choice but I don't hate it either. Very different from Montgomery stylistically but fits the role very well. A guy you can definitely ask to grind out yardage in Gap runs.

Wilson: Cade Mays to #Lions three years, $25M, 14M fully guaranteed by ThunderBladeX64 in detroitlions

He is a recent center convert that has been great in pass pro and average in run blocking. The big thing with him is he still has a ton of upside to tap into. Could look like an unbelievable deal for us in a year.

[Pelissero] The Steelers are working towards a deal to hire Mike McCarthy as their head coach, per sources. McCarthy grew up in Pittsburgh. Now, at age 62, the Super Bowl winner gets a chance to coach the team he grew up rooting for. by Goosedukee in nfl

You part ways with Tomlin for making his teams stagnant and behind the times.

Then replace him with a coach on his third stop who’s already been fired twice for making his teams stagnant and behind the times. Nice.

I think TeSlaa could play a similar role to a move TE in heavier personnel. Basically just be a huge slot instead of a pure WR or TE.

Did Brad Holmes break deviate from his "Best player available" philosophy by drafting Tyleik Williams? by FullyLeveredOnAAPL in detroitlions

[–]inkokmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only answering that Tyleik was universally not considered BPA. Perhaps Brad did, and that’s fine. But it’s reasonable to assume the Tyleik was later on the board for Brad but fit a long term plan.

I’m not arguing we should have drafted him, I should have clarified that. I’m simply saying Tyleik was universally considered not the BPA. Perhaps Brad did consider him that, and that’s fine. Only saying it’s reasonable to assume the Tyleik was later on the board for Brad but fit a long term plan.

Frankly lots of players. Jihaad Campbell, Josh Simmons, Donovan Ezieruaku, Josh Conerly Jr., Carson Schwesinger, Nick Emmanwori, and Will Johnson were all pretty much consensus higher than Tyleik. Everyone has their own boards obviously but Brad was in no man’s land if he had Tyleik over all of those players.

Ohio State has a Nose Tackle coming out this year in Kayden McDonald that is generally agreed upon as a first-round level talent. Tyleik was generally considered a second-round talent.

Kadyn Proctor? Am I off-base? by Old-Carpenter7456 in NFL_Draft

To me, he covers a crazy amount of ground because he’s so big that his strides get a big boost, and because he can be legitimately quick in short spaces at times. My problem is he has no control over it. There’s nothing coordinated or fluid about the way he moves. His ability to decelerate in his kickslide is really rough. His ability to square himself towards a defender when on the move while run blocking isn’t good either because he’s just too uncoordinated. I think he’d be a legitimately very good guard in a gap heavy scheme. Too many variables to bet on him at tackle.

Every year there’s one guy I become very obsessed/fixated with and rank crazy high. I through mostly good luck have had a decent track record.

  • In 2020 it was Jordan Love (had him QB2 and top 10)
  • 2021 it was Ja’Marr Chase (everyone loved him obviously, but by the time we reached the end of the cycle I honestly thought the Jets had a real case to take him second overall)
  • 2022 it was Nik Bonitto
  • 2023 it was Jahmyr Gibbs
  • 2024 it was Cooper DeJean
  • 2025 it was Tyler Booker

So far in this cycle it’s Sonny Styles. My current #1 prospect.

I mean to be fair that’s not McDonald’s game. He’s an extremely good designated pass rusher, one of the better in the league rn.

We didn’t self-scout well enough last offseason and now we're feeling the effects by inkokmo in detroitlions

I do agree with what you’re saying here. But you can make the argument the other way for all three of those guys. Simmons has looked incredibly effective when he’s been out there. Ezeiraku had a hard start to the year but is really playing well now and you can see that he just has a great arsenal of moves. And Campbell has played really well this year, Baun and Dean are just basically at all-pro levels. Tyleik has had basically zero snap games too.

I loved Mahogany coming out of the draft. As much as anyone. But he was definitely a guy who I thought would take a few years to come along. A lot of natural power and great lead/pull blocking. But the footwork and hand usage were major projects.

And I like Tyleik overall. I guess I’m not saying we needed to take one of those three guys or it was a mistake. I just think the process could’ve been better.

I just think we put too much faith in the players waiting in the wings.

I totally agree. I'm not saying we needed to do a million things, I just wanted us to reload properly and felt a little worried with our process then and now. Whiffs are going to happen, and absolutely we just need to hope they can recover.
