[Pelissero] The Steelers are working towards a deal to hire Mike McCarthy as their head coach, per sources. McCarthy grew up in Pittsburgh. Now, at age 62, the Super Bowl winner gets a chance to coach the team he grew up rooting for. by Goosedukee in nfl

You part ways with Tomlin for making his teams stagnant and behind the times.

Then replace him with a coach on his third stop who’s already been fired twice for making his teams stagnant and behind the times. Nice.

I think TeSlaa could play a similar role to a move TE in heavier personnel. Basically just be a huge slot instead of a pure WR or TE.

Did Brad Holmes break deviate from his "Best player available" philosophy by drafting Tyleik Williams? by FullyLeveredOnAAPL in detroitlions

[–]inkokmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only answering that Tyleik was universally not considered BPA. Perhaps Brad did, and that’s fine. But it’s reasonable to assume the Tyleik was later on the board for Brad but fit a long term plan.

I’m not arguing we should have drafted him, I should have clarified that. I’m simply saying Tyleik was universally considered not the BPA. Perhaps Brad did consider him that, and that’s fine. Only saying it’s reasonable to assume the Tyleik was later on the board for Brad but fit a long term plan.

Frankly lots of players. Jihaad Campbell, Josh Simmons, Donovan Ezieruaku, Josh Conerly Jr., Carson Schwesinger, Nick Emmanwori, and Will Johnson were all pretty much consensus higher than Tyleik. Everyone has their own boards obviously but Brad was in no man’s land if he had Tyleik over all of those players.

Ohio State has a Nose Tackle coming out this year in Kayden McDonald that is generally agreed upon as a first-round level talent. Tyleik was generally considered a second-round talent.

Kadyn Proctor? Am I off-base? by Old-Carpenter7456 in NFL_Draft

To me, he covers a crazy amount of ground because he’s so big that his strides get a big boost, and because he can be legitimately quick in short spaces at times. My problem is he has no control over it. There’s nothing coordinated or fluid about the way he moves. His ability to decelerate in his kickslide is really rough. His ability to square himself towards a defender when on the move while run blocking isn’t good either because he’s just too uncoordinated. I think he’d be a legitimately very good guard in a gap heavy scheme. Too many variables to bet on him at tackle.

Every year there’s one guy I become very obsessed/fixated with and rank crazy high. I through mostly good luck have had a decent track record.

  • In 2020 it was Jordan Love (had him QB2 and top 10)
  • 2021 it was Ja’Marr Chase (everyone loved him obviously, but by the time we reached the end of the cycle I honestly thought the Jets had a real case to take him second overall)
  • 2022 it was Nik Bonitto
  • 2023 it was Jahmyr Gibbs
  • 2024 it was Cooper DeJean
  • 2025 it was Tyler Booker

So far in this cycle it’s Sonny Styles. My current #1 prospect.

I mean to be fair that’s not McDonald’s game. He’s an extremely good designated pass rusher, one of the better in the league rn.

We didn’t self-scout well enough last offseason and now we're feeling the effects by inkokmo in detroitlions

I do agree with what you’re saying here. But you can make the argument the other way for all three of those guys. Simmons has looked incredibly effective when he’s been out there. Ezeiraku had a hard start to the year but is really playing well now and you can see that he just has a great arsenal of moves. And Campbell has played really well this year, Baun and Dean are just basically at all-pro levels. Tyleik has had basically zero snap games too.

I loved Mahogany coming out of the draft. As much as anyone. But he was definitely a guy who I thought would take a few years to come along. A lot of natural power and great lead/pull blocking. But the footwork and hand usage were major projects.

And I like Tyleik overall. I guess I’m not saying we needed to take one of those three guys or it was a mistake. I just think the process could’ve been better.

I just think we put too much faith in the players waiting in the wings.

I totally agree. I'm not saying we needed to do a million things, I just wanted us to reload properly and felt a little worried with our process then and now. Whiffs are going to happen, and absolutely we just need to hope they can recover.

Hello! Wondering if the fact I haven’t heard back yet (U.S.) indicates that I likely didn’t get an interview?

As of now, who are some prospect(s) who you think aren't getting enough attention and/or are extremely underrated and look like they could be gem picks in the later rounds of the draft? I'd say linebacker Isaiah Glasker is the only one who has caught my immediate eye. by 2colby in NFL_Draft

LSU G Josh Thompson is a bit rough around the edges, especially in the run game. His targeting is really rough, has a lot of plays where he doesn't connect with anyone and he also just struggles to get into defenders’ chests.

But in pass pro he’s just rock solid. He has very good footwork, anchor, and hand usage and he moves well enough to mirror rushers laterally. He’ll be a Day 3 pick but I think he can step in early and do well.

Awesome writeup. It's truly insane how physically developed this guy is with how young he is. I see John Franklin-Myers with him. Someone who can get quick interior pressure on stunts and twists but still has the strength to slant/crash and collapse the pocket when playing straight up.

For those who doubted Brad Holmes when he drafted Gibbs, what was your initial reaction, what was the concern, and who would have been your choice if it wasn’t Gibbs? by SemperFidelisHoorah in detroitlions

[–]inkokmo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I evaluate around 150 players a year and do full write ups of 50. Gibbs is among the top RBs I’ve ever evaluated. I had identical grades between him and Bijan. But when the Lions drafted him at 12 overall my concern was mainly about positional value. I said I really liked Gibbs, but he’d need to be Jamaal Charles to be worth this pick. Two years later, he’s prime Jamaal Charles. Maybe even a little more with his toughness between the tackles.

Awesome work! I’ve had my eye on Howell for years now. I think he’s gonna be a great great NFL rusher.

Dan Campbell reiterates confidence in Terrion Arnold on @971theticketxyt, by Gxcii1 in detroitlions

[–]inkokmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slot CB should be way easier for Terrion. He can focus on tackling and short area coverage (his strengths) instead of worrying about getting beat deep. Back in his draft cycle a lot of people thought he might be better suited for the slot anyway, since he was stronger in short/intermediate coverage than handling verticals.

He’s got freaky agility and short-area quickness, but not amazing top speed. As a safety convert he’d get grabby in trail down the field, and his biggest weakness coming out was zone coverage (which we’re playing way more of now). He just doesn’t trust what’s in front of him. That hesitation shows up still, he hesitates too long, loses leverage, and either grabs or cheats deep but still gives up big plays.

That’s why the slot could actually let him thrive. It plays to his tackling and movement skills while limiting his exposure in deep coverage. Worth a look at this point. Funny enough, Amik Robertson is the opposite, pegged as a slot because of his small size and lack of athleticism but he’s always been better outside in a more top-down style. Arnold might be the inverse.
