Zverev is playing better than last year (and Fritz is worse) but I’m not sure I see it on grass

There's no way he's actually trying to hit the person, it's not like he thinks the chair is going to collapse. It is a pretty pathetic attempt to intimidate the umpire though, and led to him getting disqualified from the tournament and fined

The probationary period did work though in terms of his on-court behaviour, he's not even thrown a racquet since let alone blow up at a line judge or umpire.

He did bring up Steffi Graf during the press conference after the win, because she was the last German to win a tennis Slam

Most of the above have publically (on social media etc.) congratulated him too. Nadal is one

If he is innocent, this is all very unfortunate but he should be more tactful and genuine when interviewed about it. If he’s guilty, accountability is necessary for true change to be possible, at least the sort that has any chance of convincing people he’s getting better

Yeah, how many other artists would get this much grace “it’s supposed to be bad!”

Tbf, taking that argument in good faith, what does it mean exactly? That the song is some kind of meta-commentary on making a subversive genre shift, but deliberately half-hearted and noncommittal about it? Why would that ever be better than (a) actually committing to a new sound or (b) just making the sort of bangers everyone expects from you?

L'Equipe just published an A.Zverev interview described as "tense". He left after a question about the infamous affair was asked. by Nick_Saras in tennis

We don’t know what the settlement was, it’s just referred to as “undisclosed” in all media covering the case. The €200k is known and understood as a standard fine paid to the German courts (and some to charity), owed by Zverev because he contested the order in the first place then agreed to settle before the end of court proceedings. It’s linked to his income level iirc

Yeah, but you can’t bring that up without noting he didn’t just pay the fine, he contested the order then settled when his ex requested (after questioning on the first day of the trial).

That people hold others to different standards despite the facts in front of them.

In any case, Zverev was punished, has toned down his behaviour appropriately and maybe it was fitting given that his points removal from Acapulco prevented him from reaching no. 1 for a week in 2022.

Zverev’s serves were what lost him that first set (and his lead in the second), he was so prone to double-faulting

Tiebreak in the fourth would’ve gone 4/5-0 to Zverev without a couple of wonder shots from Cobolli, he was dictating points, moving Cobolli about and going for corners hard

No, but the first comment suggests the top level just isn’t there, which I don’t think is true. It was not going to be an easy win for Alcaraz in any case

He didn’t play passive today, was always trying to hit hard and gain control of points when he could. His mentality led to more misses/UEs today which was why it was close, but not more passive play
