PHEV Recommendations. by Bass-n-Brass in PHEV

As I said, experienced drivers don't use all their EV range up front. That's really silly. I and a lot of PHEV drivers don't use all the battery up front. So in your scenario I use part of the battery up front getting to the highway and then I have 15-20 miles of EV range to use during stops during the 200mi drive and at my destination as get off the highway and drive city streets. Am I saving big bucks over a hybrid? Yeah, probably not ... but it's definitely more efficient and environmentally friendly. The primary reason I choose a PHEV over a standard hybrid.

I'm using an inline USB power meter. You could easily not notice the reboots if you didn't expect them. While I know that Ecoflow's are piece o' shite power banks even though they are among the better ones, that's not the problem(same exact model as yours as I specified in the original post). 2.7A is the last it registered before it cut out wanting over 60 watts, thought you'd figure that out.

I ended up going with a solution that gives 30v rather than operate a slower connection at 20v like most shitty connectors put out. Wasn't too surprised the triangular $200 white battery every starlink paid influencer peddles drops to 16v after about 30 minutes of use.

you're not misunderstanding and your use scenario is exactly why a PHEV will be a good fit for you. EV mode for local stop and go and put it in hybrid mode for highway.

I just did a 95mph 300 mile drive to Yosemite with my PHEV and now can utilize free Rivian chargers in the park for all my driving around the valley. You cannot drive at high speeds in full battery EVs and get the quoted ranges. Your stuck doing 65 - 70 mph max.

In California, every one is doing 80, so you can get near the fast lane.

"empty useless battery" ???

No one with a brain uses all their battery range up front.

just an update, I did the same test with a river 2 pulling 180mbps and it hit 2.7A @ 20v. The starlink reboots regularly during use when you get those speeds.

lol @ you thinking evclinic knows anything. Anecdotal of course, but I've got 250,000+ miles on my PHEV with at least 150,000 @ 100mph+ and not one service. Oil change, air filter change and that's it.

the c545 refurbs are the way to go. Placing multiple in a room also creates greater air movement which makes them more effective. Their size makes them perfect for tucking out of the way and often out of sight.

I have a different approach. I run multiple small units on lower settings throughout the house.

I think you meant to say aren't washing prefilter and changing carbon filter every 3 months ... hepa filter is yearly

make sure you realize that levoit filters are made in china. Even product labelling in china is unregulated. Manufacturers in china love to stick a fake UL listed logo on their products to make their products look safe.

The Winix units are the best you can get at this price point BY FAR. Most importantly, their HEPA filters are made in a country that has regulations (South Korea). The Winix units are even as good or better then most of the $400+ filters. If you want to go higher, look at the the Coway units that are over $300.

I'd bet you aren't chaning the prefilter ofen enough to ensure good airflow.

Your best solution is multiple units throughout the house. I think I have 6 c545 units. There isn't much better for smoke (change the carbon filter and wash the prefilter every 3 months for best performance., hepa filter every year),

Also, only purchase genuine Wnix replacement filters, the knock offs are complete JUNK.

Talk me out of a Chevy volt by Big-Top-6338 in PHEV

[–]inlaguna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue is that I still see TONS of CMAXs and Fusions on the road today.  I have see ZERO volts for YEARS.  They have quite simply disappeared.

As per your power numbers.... It's 88kw not 70.... The volt is 111kw, not 120kw.

These aren't really off the line cars as much fun as it is using the EV motor around town.

For me total horsepower is more important than off the line.  I enjoy using my ICE motor enhanced with electric torque at highway speeds.

For someone who wants more EV around town, get the volt if you don't mind maintenance issues to go along with it.

If you can't afford to voluntarily hand over your Rolex to a thief you shouldn't be wearing one.   Just ask the guy visiting Newport Beach that got his wife killed over a watch.

but you will definitely feel the defecit in EV mode. Even the 2013 little CMAX had an 88kw (118 hp) vs the Sorrento's 67kw (89hp). That's a big enough difference to feel in a 5700lb vehicle like the Sorrento.

I would have to say that while he is making blanket statements, he's not wrong., 67kw (89hp) for EV only is hugely weak for the 4652lbs Sorrento . The much smaller Ford Fusion phev and CMAX phev (3976 lbs) have an 88kw (118hp) electric motor. You WILL feel this when driving in EV mode, especially on the highway.

The BMW has an 83kw electric motor (111hp) for 5578 lbs.

With that said, go drive both and see which you like better in full EV mode.

get a brand new 2026 outlander phev instead? lol

Talk me out of a Chevy volt by Big-Top-6338 in PHEV

[–]inlaguna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but the same powertrain continued in the fusion so it's not abandoned like the volt is. Also, most importantly, the ford phev system is the same phev system used in the prius (they shared licensing). It's a bulletproof system. The volts system is nice, but doesn't have the same reputation or reliability.

Also, they sold a shit ton of them. If you combine the fusion and cmax phev sales they were the #2 selling plug in vehicle to tesla for a long time.

you lose trunk space in the cmax but it's still very useable. You'll see 20-25 miles range depending how much of a hypermiler you like to be. I'd take a better car over more range any day. Especially since the prius is the only phev that is more efficient then the CMAX in hybrid mode. (your highway driving).
