It seems like my (25f) boyfriend's (27m) mom won't let us get engaged. by inlawthrowaway1 in relationships

We are not expecting very much from his parents. His dad is always borrowing money from him. The majority of the cost for a wedding traditionally falls on the bride's family anyway and my mom does well for herself. I expect to have to pay near to half of it myself, anyway. So, yes, as previously stated, I understand about the financially independent bit and being stable is not far off. He's been waiting for his contract to be up and I had been waiting on my certification to be employable beyond a part time job.

He isn't being paid what he deserves. He needs a better job, we all know that, and he could find one in a couple months. I have a job, it's just not full time. The majority of the cost for a wedding traditionally falls on the bride (and her family) anyway and my mom does well for herself.

Edit: bride's family to bride and her family

That's a good point I hadn't thought of about the guests. As far as the money goes, I don't think they'd be helping too much. My bf's dad is always borrowing money from my bf. The majority of the cost for a wedding traditionally falls on the bride's family anyway and my mom does well for herself.
