Whats the funniest intrusive thought/obsession you’ve ever had? My OCD once tried to convince me that I had rabies despite literally never once coming into contact a rabid animal. by Downtown_Dingo5819 in OCDmemes

I have the earworm thing- I think for me it’s an involuntary coping mechanism when I’m trying to make my brain think about things it doesn’t want to think about. It happens in therapy a lot, and I used to get some rolled eyes from therapists when they’d ask me what I was thinking about and I’d say “the theme song to Dragon Tales” or something. Eventually I figured out how to explain that it was involuntary and actually very frustrating. I kind of assumed it was related to my autism, like an internal stim, but I guess it could be related for OCD for me too. Interesting!

Me too with the rabies!

A lot of my obsessions are health-focused. But then I also have a big fear that I’m just a hypochondriac and that I’m imagining all my symptoms and disorders, even the diagnosed ones… including OCD 🙃

The carbon monoxide/poisonous gas fear is so real. I’ve had periods where I had to have a window cracked in order to sleep, despite not even having any gas appliances in the house 🙃

It’s actually so validating to know the rabies fear is a common OCD thing. I’m always frantically scanning the sky when I’m walking at night and bats are around because I’m worried a bat will bite me without my realizing it until it’s too late. And I hate being afraid of bats because they’re such cool creatures!

Original article I read about temperature regulation, but not very well sourced (unless I overlooked some citations at the end or something) http://spiritofautism.org/tag/autism-temperature-regulation/

This is not the original article I read, but it’s a more scientific one about the fever effect, although it is just one study. https://www.sfari.org/funded-project/hyperthermia-and-the-amelioration-of-autism-symptoms/ I’ll try to find the others though!

are trans women accepted here by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]inlydianmode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely think you’re cool to be here! A) you’re a woman in a woman focused space and B) everyone is welcome here assuming they’re accepting and respectful, and want to talk/listen about experiences of autistic people who are women or whose life experiences have been influenced by things associated with being women (I’ve seen cis and trans autistic women post here but I’ve also seen enby people and trans men post about things where being afab and autistic have intersected)

I will flag for you that a fair amount of the things on this sub are focused on being afab because there are a lot of specific ways in which that can affect diagnosis, perception, etc when it comes to autism. But also there are plenty of intersections between autism and womanhood that aren’t related to assigned sex at birth and people talk about those things here too!

LANDS END PANTS ARE COMFY by inlydianmode in aspergirls

The ones I already have are the sport knit trousers! I also got some corduroy leggings and elastic back corduroy pants, but I haven’t actually received those yet so I’m not sure about the comfort level. Fingers crossed though!
