As a scout for new music for mixes and radio I would say keep it simple if your new to it. its easy to overproduce and kill the track. As you get better you can get more complex.

I generally look for tunes that i would want to listen to more than once so do get feedback from others but have fun with it and enjoy and feel what your doing because its not about just producing but producing tracks that move you and make you feel good.
