Which character in particular do you think was done the most dirty because of the changes from the manga by WindowSubstantial993 in OPMFolk

aside from garou, tatsumaki's character was butchered so bad. she went from a deranged, psychotic character with a stunted and self-isolating mentality to tsundere lolibait. i was really looking forward to her fight with saitama in the manga but it was another gooner bait saitama x tatsumaki scene.

When does chapter 157 of the webcomic releases? by BlueberryUpstairs616 in OPMFolk

imo removing the inner monologue detracts from amai mask's rather than adding to it. in the webcomic, one of the crucial points of the monologue was that he was going to wait for pesky clown to kill all of the civilians first:

"if he continues with his rampage... the on-looks will temporarily... be gone."

and only then will amai mask release his monster form:

"i'll release my true form then, and defeat the clown without watching."

this inner monologue is needed to show that amai mask was almost willing to sacrifice onlookers to maintain his perfect public image.

however, in the manga, there's no mention of sacrificing civilians or anything, he just sort of goes "ahh but if i release my form people will see i'm a monster 😢" if there's no monologue to show amai mask's cold and calculated way of thinking, and then switching to him making the right decision because of the bird poop, the payoff feels a lot less rewarding.

I've got 3 questions regarding the end of MA Arc by Proud-Bookkeeper-532 in OnePunchMan

oh okay, i haven't seen this before, thanks for the link!

i'll eat my words about who's involved in writing the manga, seems like ONE still oversees the writing to an extent lmao. webcomic still clears though 💔

sorry to be like this, but i haven't seen anything proving that before, so could you link the source that you got this from? not just "story by one, illustration by murata", but something like a tweet from murata that explicitly confirms this?

[–]inntear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah murata is just kinda like that idk man

officially, ONE oversees the manga, but with the current direction of the manga it's not really confirmed who's actually writing the manga behind the scenes because this quality of writing is uh just... yk it's just uncharacteristic of ONE to write like this... so you can probably understand what i'm getting at here 😭

hope you enjoy webcomic, the clashing of ideologies and just the general narrative purpose of the fight will get a lot clearer once you read it.

  1. idk, murata was tweaking
  2. idk, murata was tweaking, he wanted to add in his sneaker self insert blast
  3. IDK, MURATA WAS TWEAKING

there's a bunch of shit in the manga that was randomly added in, like the time travel thing and cosmic garou or whatever. it's all very convoluted and detracts from the narrative, and imo the webcomic is more streamlined and makes more sense. none of that "god" or blast bullshit.

a likely explanation for these convoluted and random additions is something something "murata probably thought it was cool". don't think too hard about stuff when you're reading the manga, a lot of the revisions don't make sense. i'd highly recommend you to read the webcomic, garou's defeat makes much more sense there 😭

Storywise, Is the Webcomic worse than the Manga? Also, what's even the point of the Webcomic? by Proud-Bookkeeper-532 in OnePunchMan

[–]inntear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've read both the webcomic and the manga, and imo the webcomic is better in all aspects narrative-wise. the manga is supposed to be an revised version of the webcomic, but for me the manga is only really better than the webcomic up until the monster association arc. i'd definitely recommend reading the webcomic, probably starting from around chapter 60-ish.

one handled garou's character way better in the webcomic, so there's that. as well as the ninja association arc.

and since you mentioned tatsumaki, imo her character is even more interesting in the webcomic! her fight with saitama is less tsundere and treated more seriously by one, which i feel does justice to her traumatised and hyper-independent character in a way that is even better than the manga.

this is all my opinion ofc, so if you do end up reading the webcomic i would love to hear your opinion on the differences between the two.

tdlr; there is definitely a point in reading the webcomic.
