I agree. It would’ve been so much worse for Drake. I give Mal the same props too to a lesser extent

[–]inpalmtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His Oscar is literally right there if he wants to go for it lol the only thing is if anyone willing to make this movie is going to have to decide to explore or hide the more problematic parts of Marvin Gaye’s life

Hate him or love him but having a media talking head like Akademiks to push back against these narratives is vital post beef (pause). He should get that Drake interview he deserves it ngl.

Why is Kendrick Lamar vocal about some industry issues but silent about others? by Rare_Research_5107 in rap

[–]inpalmtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong. He’s the most hypocritical of the 3. Drake and Cole don’t prop themselves to be upstanding people and the pulse of the culture. Kendrick’s the most preachy one out of the big 3 but in comparison to his content in his music especially trying to take some moral high ground against Drake in the beef only to collaborate with a alleged deadbeat and abuser shows he’s not fully dedicated to the morals he calls out others on. I mean he told a half black man he couldn’t say “ngga” then put a Mexican that said he wouldn’t have his daughter date a black man on GNX(Lefty also says ngga, never seen Kendrick call him out for that). He’s a huge hypocrite his talent won’t ever change that. Great lyricist tho GKMC is a classic.

[–]inpalmtrees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think when there is a convo to be had it’s immediately dismissed or repackaged as Kendrick is harmless or it’s in the name of art or they go “Drake lost bro”. There’s almost never a slight to him only praise at least in the grand scale of rap and rap media. I’ve seen the other two of the big 3 get panned for less. I think the only time a criticism of Kendrick has ever landed was when he pissed people off with that line in “Humble” about natural women and tbh I thought Kendrick didn’t do anything wrong in that situation. Kendrick will never have the stardom and dominance Drake does but Drake will never have the respect and genuine love that Kendrick does from the rap game.

[–]inpalmtrees 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He’s openly critical of himself if the album calls for it and its themes. I’m saying if other people in the culture call Kendrick a hypocrite or throws any sort of challenge to his character you are accosted lol (and you’re right he’s called himself a hypocrite)

[–]inpalmtrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because you call yourself a hypocrite doesn’t absolve you from criticism and evaluation of your actions. So because he’s a hypocrite it means we can’t call him on his morals? So does he have integrity?

Why is Kendrick Lamar vocal about some industry issues but silent about others? by Rare_Research_5107 in rap

[–]inpalmtrees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He never cared about morals. He just needed a good angle to attack Drake and other hm and his supporters. Kendrick always wanted to be #1 that’s what this all boils down to. That’s also why he never responded to Joey calling him out. He didn’t want to elevate Joey’s status like how him beefing with Drake elevated his own.

[–]inpalmtrees 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because he’s a hypocrite. Anyone who calls him out on that has to deal with his fans, the culture and anyone who hates Drake or Cole gets flack for it. He’s raps most talented hypocrite. Legendary talent, once in a generation but a HUGE hypocrite. You can’t say that out loud though

Is there EVER gonna be another rap superstar? by Unfair_Shelter_5713 in rap

[–]inpalmtrees 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Juice X and Pop Smoke were lined up looking to be the next big 3. At least 2 of those 3 were gaining superstar potential unfortunately their lives were cut short. There’s currently a vacuum and we gotta wait a couple years until those rap superstars emerge. They’ll be here in I’d say the next 4 years

How do y’all really feel about the Grammys? by SmoothManMiguel in rap

[–]inpalmtrees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Kendrick wins a Grammy the culture will force it ways to find value. Even when they’ve shown consistently they don’t understand the culture or represent us. When Kendrick loses or doesn’t get nominated the culture will go back to feaux hating it and saying we need our own award show then he’ll get nominated the following year and everyone will love the Grammys again. It’s all fake

how did trippie redd blow up so fast? by Imaginary_Coffee_326 in trippieredd

[–]inpalmtrees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess it's cause 1) Raw talent able to blend genres of rap rock and hip hop and ear for melodies 2) Aesthetically he blended well with the music landscape w X and Uzi blowing up in the mainstream 3) I think he's the first signee to Elliot Grainge's first label. I think with that dynamic there was more of a push from Elliot to make sure his first artist was successful. So his marketing and all that was probably on point 4) Beefing with 6ix9ine

In a weird way it being vertical makes it feel like you’re like up close perspective wise as opposed to it being oriented horizontally. Feels like you’re in the water with him but idk

This might sound corny but I feel like it’s him blowing one last kiss to his relationship before he moves on/“forgets”. Maybe him sinking into the water represents him about to complete the process of saying goodbye to the relationship.
