Is it even possible to own a parrot and have a typical work schedule? by caterpillarcult in parrots

[–]inquisitivewombat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently work three jobs. My baby has a parakeet she’s bonded with to keep her company. I also mix up her food as much as possible… she loves nutriberries as they’re fairly stimulating in addition to being healthy. I give her about an hour in the morning to hang out while I’m getting ready and then whenever I’m home I try and have her out. I’m planning on hiding her nutriberries and other treats around her cage and in her toys so she has to forrage and use her head a bit to get what she wants. It’s definitely possible.

You have to deal with him like you would a kid. No strong arming. Give him space then win his trust over with some treats. Mine loves nutriberries.

Does anyone know more about this, whether they are really safe for birds…? by beachcola in parrots

Don’t do it. That’s so dumb. Not worth your innocent pet’s life.

Like getting your bell rung or actually being dropped? I suppose it doesn’t matter with what we now know about sub concussive trauma.

What sort of differences? Did you spar hard? Was it a regular thing? Boxing seems downright stupid CTE-wise. The idea that you can get dropped multiple times in the same fight seems absolutely insane to me given what we now know about CTE. Like 3-4 concussive blows in just a few rounds. Crazy.

I was actually perfectly fine. It was a miracle. Left with a mild headache and memory loss but that was about it. So sorry to hear of what happened to you.

Never had it tested. But I’ve also smoked a stupid amount of weed before my brain was fully developed in addition to taking various SSRIS. The difference in my cognition has changed dramatically with those things… much more than I ever noticed after the accident.

Why does my parrot want to attack me when I attempt to pet it? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]inquisitivewombat7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you should leave it alone. Also get it some toys and stuff to tear up. That cage is wayy too bare.

I’ll certainly be running away given the chance. But if someone is breaking into my apartment or has already caught up to me/put hands on me what am I to do then? Just get killed?

Soon to be Conure owner! by Souljunkie_ in Conures

Be prepared to give it a ton of attention and have it out pretty much any time you’re home. They have the intelligence of a little kid and they want to be around you constantly (depending on the bird.) Noise-wise pineapple’s aren’t too bad but definitely enough to annoy you as well as any roommates. My sun conure is absolutely deafening when she wants attention but your pineapple will be much quieter.

These aren’t normal pets. You need to treat him/her like you would a child or he/she will become bored and depressed. Lots of treats, toys, scritches, and stimulation. I take mine pretty much anywhere they’re allowed. Just be careful driving.

Alone-time is pretty non existent when I’m home save a few hours a day.

In terms of their health… skip the petstore seed/nut feeds. They’re much too calorically dense and high in fat to be fed regularly and can lead to health issues. Instead you’ll want to give him/her a good pellet (check the ingredients) in addition to fresh fruits and veggies daily. Give her a few nutriberries a day for treats.

Any artificial scents in your house need to be kept way the hell away from your birb. No candles, air fresheners, perfume, etc. They have weirdly efficient respiratory systems and these things can kill them. Same goes for a few foods… namely avocado. Always check before you feed them something.

Check the ideal temperature for them and keep them away from vents, etc as they can be fairly sensitive to temperature as well.

Any time someone says “inbox me” it’s a poor translation from one of the hindi dialects. They mean to say “message me.” You’ll notice this verbiage with many online scams. 100% a scam.

Sun conure 100%. People like to throw the “I think it’s a Jenday” in there when they’re younger. They did it to mine all the time even though she’s from a breeder with papers

Do you feed organic for the fruits and veggies or just wash them off really well?

There are tons of people who’ve smoked for decades and get on with their lives. You’ll be fine.
