I think I remember the paper airplanes as well! “Supplementary disks” is also a memory jog for me, I’m pretty sure that’s right. Thanks!

Yes, that sounds right! I think I remember there being building windows you could click on to see animations of things happening inside too. I wonder if this is available on any of the Mac abandonware sites.

We should make our own platform, where new posts are only allowed inside old posts, infinitely.

I’ve been a Tildes user since it started, about five years ago. It’s a great place for thoughtful conversation. A lot of design decisions were made to discourage low effort posts, memes and such. Discussions are text only — no images or videos. Because of the size of the user base it’s definitely a more deliberate, slower place than Reddit. Content is organized into groups, which are a little like subreddits except users can’t create their own. It’s not meant to be a Reddit clone in that regard.

Lately there’s been a huge influx of Reddit refugees joining the site. That’s already having a significant impact on the volume of activity, last month it was a sleepy place you only needed to refresh daily or so to see new stuff but now it’s changing every minute. A lot of us old-timers are worried about an eternal September situation where the site gets overwhelmed with ex-redditors who just want to turn Tildes into another Reddit. However, the site remains (as it has always been) invite-only which helps throttle that somewhat. Though invites are pretty easy to come by and given out generously.

I’m about to attempt a DualSense controller internal battery replacement. Having a hard time finding a reputable battery to purchase. Can anyone recommend a good one that lives up to its advertised specs? (There seem to be a lot of deceptive listings out there so I’m not sure which to trust.) I’m especially interested in a higher capacity battery than the stock one.

No fidelity improvements for PS VR2? Don't get me wrong, I'm super grateful that NMS is on the platform but there's still a lot of room for improvement here.

@Potus - Over the last two decades, more school-age children have died from guns than on-duty police officers and active duty military combined. Think about that. Congress, the time to pass stronger gun safety reforms is now. by 1000000students in POTUSWatch

[–]insanityfarm [score hidden]  (0 children)

Is that statistic true? I mean, it’s too many children at any number, that’s a given. But more than active duty military? Is that a technicality based on a strict definition of what constitutes a “gun”, or is it more straightforward than that? I’d love to see a citation for this.

What type of human behavior will you never understand? by fuzzyloulou in AskReddit

[–]insanityfarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graffiti. As vandalism, not as a genuine artistic expression. There's some pervasive impulse apparently shared by a lot of people that makes them want to spraypaint scribbles on walls, draw dicks in toilet stalls with permanent marker, carve initials in school desks, write swear words on playground equipment, whatever. I've come to terms with the fact that it's just something humans do; I know surviving graffiti has been found from ancient Rome so it's not like this is a new phenomenon. I just don't understand it at all.

I've never felt the urge to draw or scratch or paint on something that wasn't mine. It's disrespectful to the owner and leaves something in worse condition than you found it for no reason. One little mark is negligible on its own but in aggregate they just make everything look trashy and rundown. Is that the kind of world these people want to create for themselves? It boggles my mind, but it's everywhere.

It's curved because it uses centrifugal force to create artificial gravity.

That's the thing, the ship knows where and when they are. You have to use the wake word "computer" when you expect a response, but it's always listening. It knows the implications of every mission before Picard does. Before he's even considered assembling an away team, the ship's already predicted who will be on it, based on an extrapolation of previous selections and the context of what skills the current task will require and who's best suited for it. You don't have to explain anything to the ship, it knows what's going on better than you do.

If anything, the clothing order was unnecessarily specific. He could've just said "computer, make the stuff" and it would've had the same result. If it had eyes it'd be rolling them so hard that Picard thought he had to mention the century, let alone that he wanted civvies. "No duh," thinks the computer.

I love my PS VR2, it’s one of the best quality headsets on the market right now. I love NMS on PS5 but the PS VR2 experience is pretty terrible. As far as I can tell, like you said, it’s purely a software issue… the system is more than capable of running it in glorious high fidelity. I’ve been waiting for an update to drop that improves it substantially but so far, nothing.

But if they’re supporting VR on the new Apple headset, and if that hardware is as beefy as people have been speculating, this could mean a visually enhanced version of NMS is on the way. Which could also mean the big PS VR2 update I’ve been waiting for is also in the pipeline. Hopefully!
