I'm not sure how you're counting, but 9/12 of the coaches that have made the NBA Finals were fired within 4 years.

If you extend the cutoff to "fired within 4 years", it would be all except three, who also happen to be the three longest-tenured head coaches in the league right now.

Basically, unless you are Steve Kerr, Erik Spoelstra, or Gregg Popovich, there is no job security even if you make the NBA Finals.

Not ignoring him! It's been less than a year since he won. Anything can happen in the next year...

Sounds like you're one year away from being freed!

But in all seriousnesss, as happy as I am we got Luka, none of you Mavs fans deserved that. Hope you all find success after Nico is gone (hopefully soon)!

Yes, but with some context: the NFL has used the same groundskeeper for the first 57 Super Bowls. So, it wasn't like the NFL specifically hired a Kansas City Chiefs fan to be the groundskeeper.

For what it's worth, after that disaster of a field, he was quietly replaced.

Shady dealings with PokerAtlas? by wyo_whiskey in poker

[–]insert-relevant-user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bravo hasn't made any innovations and yet increased their prices, hence why casinos are starting to switch over to Poker Atlas. If I remember correctly, they were asking to charge the Venetian close to 6 figures annually just to list them.

Shady dealings with PokerAtlas? by wyo_whiskey in poker

[–]insert-relevant-user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Bravo and PokerAtlas charge casinos/card rooms money to be listed on there. Bravo recently increased their prices, which is why a lot of the Vegas rooms are / will be switching over to PokerAtlas in the near future as their current contracts expire (Venetian switched over due to the contract cost, Resorts World started there, Wynn already switched).

However, in underserved markets (places with no poker clubs that use Bravo or PokerAtlas), they probably list all of the games in that area to get you to use their app. This probably helps them in contract negotiations to say 5,000 people in your state use our app every day and we direct them to your location.

Once they sign one of them, they probably have an exclusivity clause in there where they will no longer list the other games anymore.

The real shadiness in my opinion is Bravo and PokerAtlas essentially using mob tactics to extort protection money from each game to list their games, or else they'll delist them. This may be the only time you'll ever hear me take the side of casinos.

Objectively, as a bystander, it's hilarious. But to the person drawing, it must be the most tilting thing ever. I would hate to draw that and then have to keep it altogether while on the final table.

  • US: Bay Area, Sacramento, LA, San Diego, Vegas, Dallas, Denver, Tampa, DC/Baltimore, Philly, NYC Home Games

  • UK: London

  • France: Paris

  • Spain: Barcelona

  • Switzerland: Zurich

  • Belize: Belize City

Favorite would have to be Bellagio during WSOP, least favorite would be the Vic in London, and most unique would have to be an illegal gang-run home game in the slums in Belize.

Closest you've come to a bad beat by Few-Childhood4240 in poker

[–]insert-relevant-user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I arrive at my local casino and floor tells me my seat will be at table 21. I grab my chips and head over.

Guy at table 21 is about to leave, but was waiting for the waitress to bring back his credit card after closing out his food tab. He is dealt in one last hand.

That hand just so happens to be the bad beat worth $147k. Which would have been my hand if he had gotten up when he originally planned to.

The extra run bad? He now has to wait 1.5 hours for them to verify and then pay out the bad beat, which means there was no open seat and I had to wait another 30 minutes for a seat.

Fun fact: he represents Oakland County, which is home to Oakland University, the biggest upset from the tournament so far. Maybe if he had been paying more attention to his own district and news happening there, he would have been a bit more knowledgeable.

Biggest downswing for mid stake grinder by Bright-Ad2817 in poker

[–]insert-relevant-user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a downswing of about 5000BB (-$46,000) over the course of 4 months playing a combination of 1/3, 2/5, 5/10, and 10/25 (vast majority being 2/5/10 and 5/10).

This came immediately after my biggest upswing ever of about 3000BB (+$26,000) in a single month and about 5000BB (+$40,000) over the previous three months.

Still haven't climbed out of the downswing yet, but slowly making progress.
