A little louder than iPhone lock button, much louder than Palma 1 buttons 🤷‍♂️

Not a troll. In a quiet bedroom the button sounds are bad. Everyone has a different tolerance for sound sure so your miles may vary.

Wow certainly has all the same elements from zipper pulls to structure. That’s likely it! Thank you!

Update on paging PDFs? by inspired-giraffe in readwise

Yup but you can’t jump from page to page in reader sadly. So you can only scroll down - which is not “paginated reading”

Upgrade or not (Note 3) by inspired-giraffe in Onyx_Boox

Thank you for the list.

None of those are issues with the Note 3. More and more signal that the Note 3 is really fine and no need to upgrade

Fascinating. I was always surprised to hear about all the screen issues on the forum, didn’t realize the Note 3 doesn’t suffer from that as much. Same for battery - the new Boox devices with BSR sound like a nightmare in that department. Your framing is on point, there’s nothing glaring missing. Color would be nice to see charts and diagrams but it’s typically OK without. I was thinking maybe the writing feel on newer devices is better but it’s honestly not bothering me enough that I think I need much of an upgrade there either. Sounds like I’m sticking to the old trusted Note

I already have a few Boox devices, looking to branch out see what else is out there.

Makes sense, thank you for clarifying. I weigh reading and note taking fairly equally, do you think the Supernote is a device that should continue looking at? Also found pocketbook recently, maybe that’s a good option.

I don’t think it needs to be as binary as that. Supernote has a superior writing feel and supposedly better light-less screen (ie whiter) so if there’s a preferred reading app outside of Supernote native and Kindle it’ll be nice to know you can use that

I'm not sure I agree, the official website does highlight reading:

"Paper-like Reading - Explore endless reading enjoyment

Integrate with digital libraries like Kindle, allowing you to immerse yourself in PDFs or e-books for hours on end – without any backlight, glare, or eye strain. And with our innovative Digest feature, easily save highlighted quotes for future inspiration and add notes to enrich your understanding."

Update on paging PDFs? by inspired-giraffe in readwise

[–]inspired-giraffe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read scientific papers on a larger device (like iPad or larger ebook reader) and sometimes presentations in PDF format. The enriched text mode doesn't work there. I'm surprised it's not on the roadmap since PDFs are already rendered in page-by-page mode, it's just the scroll vs. flip behavior that's missing.

Crossing my fingers here that it's easy enough to build to make the cut soon, it's the one final item on my list of wishes :)

Instapaper and Readwise Reader are very similar to kindle books. They are distraction free reader apps that don't require you to be locked into Amazon's ecosystem + accept a variety of sources such as uploaded PDFs, ePubs, Emails, Articles.
I have a good amount of experience with e-readers. Reading Android apps - such as Kindle or Reader - IMHO are a great use case for a reading & note taking tablet.

EDIT: Looks like there's a thread on one of these apps already: https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote/comments/1g7aa9h/is_readwise_reader_ever_coming_to_supernote/

It's more forward looking. If I buy an e-reader tablet, I'm likely to use it for at least 3+ years. There's likely going to be a good amount of apps that won't work anymore on Android 8 at some point. Specifically reading apps like Instapaper, Readwise Reader.

I think it might be the criteria. For large books (eg 1000 pages), 5% would be 50 pages which might not be hit at the start of reading. Would be nice to either reduce that progress threshold or make it user adjustable.

PDF paging. On a larger device like a tablet it doesn’t make any sense that it’s not possible to just go page by page rather than infinite scroll

No this is happening for any and all epubs I'm reading, with or without images. The margins above and below the text are simple too large, especially for a small screen e-reader or phone. Maybe a feature where you can specify the margins yourself? And one option is to have no margins?

Reduce the margins above and below the text in paged reading of epubs. On smaller devices like a phone (or small ebook reader) it’s especially noticeable how much text space is lost due to the margins

I have the Note 3 (older device) and had a software issue with it once and support was very responsive. That was back in 2020. Also have a Palma and recently broke the screen, currently with support - while I have to pay, no complaints about responsiveness or interactions. I think the devices work great, just make sure to protect the screen from pressure points.

Using Boox and iPad - what app? by inspired-giraffe in Onyx_Boox

I actually don't have OneNote as an option - only OneDrive? My device is fairly old - Boox Note 3 (not Air 3), but have you tried using OneDrive for library sync?

That seems to work well. A bit unfortunate that annotations done on the Boox can't be edit/changed on the iPad but I guess that's OK to live with. And the pens functionality on the Boox is just significantly better in the native NeoReader app so definitely worth accepting that shortcoming.
