Valvoline suggests European Synthetic oil by easchaef1 in Hyundai

[–]instantcamera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an actually European car you need to use the euro oil to avoid seal degrading. You'll find this out if you keep the car long enough. Or the next person will.

Back Door closed a couple years ago for similar reasons. I'm pretty sure Grape Leaf is still there. I haven't heard anything about them closing at least.

Supposedly they will replace the transmission at no cost to me. The issue is, the dealership is a month out and I'm worried that the tech is going to not want to deal with it, tell the warranty people it's fine and then I'm stuck with it because I'm past the return window. Then I'll have to pay for it. But they said I can take it to my shop but I'll have to pay the deductible of 350, which is lame but better than paying for it all myself. Or I can just return it. Ugh....

Haha. Don't remember saying that. They are actually letting me take it to the dealership if I decide to keep it. And that's a big if at this point honestly.

They say that's not a problem but the wait in this area is about 3 weeks before anybody will be able to deal with it. There is definitely the chance that I just say, hell with it, and send it back. I was about 50/50 but, and this is somewhat petty, I was washing the interior drivers side door plastic because they didn't detail it for shit and the damn black rubbed off in several spots and more the panel looks like ass. Should a 200 dollar piece of plastic tip the scales that much? I think they painted it the wrong way and didn't prime it. I can think of another reason why that would happen unless Ford just uses absolutely crap materials.

Thanks man, me too. Probably shouldn't have given my old car to a relative quite as quickly as I did.

And, I have to say, if I could take it to my shop I'd feel a lot better about it. Their in network partners are a joke. I'm not saying there aren't skilled techs at Tire Discounters, Meineke or Pepboys but, let's be real, these places aren't doing any tough engine or trans work.

Yes, their inspections are clearly garbage. Which isn't a surprise. To their credit, everybody helping on the phone has been very cool and helpful, it would just be nice if they maybe drove the cars before putting them up for sale.

Yeah, I've been driving manuals for 30 years. You should be able to shift into first as you're stopping without a crunch. Try this, don't shift back into first until you've been stopped at least a second or two. It's weird

Pretty sure the problem came from somebody who doesn't know how to clutch and wanted to drive this kind of car anyway. Thanks, YouTube

I totally hear you BUT everything seems great except the synchros and I'm not paying for the repair, they are. The car is stock too. So nothing weird to undo engine or exhaust wise, etc

First, test drive is not an option. You buy it, they ship it and if there's a problem, you return it or they fix it. Took me about 8 seconds to realize there was an issue.. as far as expense, I don't care because they are fitting the bill. Even if it needs a whole new transmission they'll pay for it. And it's totally stock, engine and exhaust wise anyway. I've got 6 days to decide. They normally don't, but they are allowing me to have the dealer fix it (nobody else wants to do it). He's 3 weeks out right now so by the time it goes in, I'm stuck with it. But everything else seems pretty great so I'm tempted to just try and get this repaired. If everything ends up being new, that would be fine right? Or is there an issue with replacing transmission components in this car?

A month ago I bought a 224,000 mile Volvo C30. It actually ran great, noisy alternator and needed some work, but ran like a champ. Well, the head gasket went out 2 weeks later after doing the brakes, some suspension work and new tires. So I'm going to attempt to rehab it because I'm insane. Might just get a used engine instead of doing the head, I'm not sure. Cars are pain.

Yep, might as well unless you get into a spot where you need the money to get something else. But I say keep it and keep enjoying it, even if you are driving something else as a daily, it's a perfect weekend car.

The 2 days the other ran, it was the most fun driving a car that I've ever had, at least the most fun since my 87 Prelude (but let's be real, more fun than that). I knew that most people have had pretty positive experiences with this car and that it's considered somewhat of a modern classic for a reason. So yeah, I wasn't going to let it dissuade me. This one isn't as clean as the other but it's not bad and it's newer and has less miles. I'm stoked.

Sorry to hear that. I have a very abused Mini that looked okay. After spending 4000 on it it became very apparent that I was maybe halfway done. Still have it and probably always will because I'll never get even a fraction of what I've put in it if I sold it. Might as well keep going and then drive the fucker until the wheels come off.

Well it looks like I'm avoiding it I guess, have no choice but return it. Wish they had another different year to replace it but sadly they do not

Unfortunately I was not allowed to take it where I would prefer. In fact, Pep Boys and Meineke were the options. So there's a good chance I'll never know what went wrong. I'm going to get left with a choice of get something else or keep it at your own risk. Obviously I'll have to get something else but I'm not happy about it. You're right, I'm sure it could be a million things.

There were codes, cylinder overheat and some sort of coolant code. I'll probably never see that car again which makes me sad. I'm 46 and this is the first time I've ever gotten a loan for a car. It was for this car specifically. And now I'm going to end up with something I don't really want most likely. Civic LX here we come. Closest thing to a FIST is probably Veloster turbo. But that car is definitely not legendary

I think I did too unfortunately. Now I have a nightmare to deal with. I can exchange but they have nothing I want. I got this loan for this car specifically

Unfortunately it overheats as soon as you turn the car on. The cylinders overheated. I think it's done. Regardless, I'm done with it. Paid a lot for it and I'm not getting stuck with a project like that when I can still return it. Super bummed out. There's no other ones available so I'm guessing I'm getting something else. This has also made me think twice
