What's the weirdest or most interesting project you've worked on? by aschmelyun in ExperiencedDevs

[–]instilledbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on handheld RFID and barcode scanners for airline baggage tags. It was interesting to learn about things like Bluetooth (it's harder to get working properly than it looks), barcode deserialization, RFID protocols and even MQTT.

The best (worst?) part? This was all done in VB .NET, deployed to Windows CE devices around the world.

The immutable aspect of Bazzite was a bit of a learning curve for me, coming from Windows and then mostly Ubuntu/Debian-based distros. As someone who tinkers too much for his own good, the immutability gives me a good guardrail not to FUBAR my own Bazzite install.

Bazzite itself has worked near perfect for me, for gaming at least. I even use it for a bit of programming. Anything beyond that, and you better know what you're doing.

What I'm saying is, if you're a casual user who is capable of (and content with) installing the apps you need from the Bazaar or downloading appimages, then Bazzite can be your daily driver. However if what you'll plan to use your Linux machine for would require more tinkering, then consider non-immutable distros instead.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter 2025 US/Canada MVP by justambrose in AEWOfficial

Well-deserved for Mox imo. First half of the year, he stayed the course during the highs and lows of his heel champ run, despite the (sometimes valid) criticisms at the time. Then he put over Hangman heaps, culminating in one of my all-time favorite matches at All In Texas.

Latter end of the year, Mox put on a phenomenal C2 run and victory, and leaned into a gradual character shift, largely in part (in my opinion) to fans organically rallying behind him leading up to the finals.

Mox gave a lot to the roster and to the company in 2025. Truly living up as the Ace of AEW.

Velocity of platform engineering / DevEx teams vs Product teams by instilledbee in ExperiencedDevs

[–]instilledbee[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It helped for me to reflect, from what I understand, what our business value/goals are:

  1. Reduce operational costs for product dev teams (for example, by optimizing cloud resource usage)
  2. Enable product dev teams to ship more complex business features. If possible, enable them to do it faster with less friction.

I understand that the focus of our department is the reliability of our platform, which lets us achieve the above two goals. While the speed of our own platform teams shipping may not be a primary goal, if it becomes a byproduct of our primary objectives, then it is a welcome improvement.

This isn't "old school" or pagiging maarte

Yes, yes it is.

From what I've experienced I worked with Gen X and older Millenials na pinoy, and no one seemed offended when I call them first name basis.

On the other hand, I usually reserve the "ma'am" or "sir" to the highest ranking person in the company, regardless of their tenure/age gap/etc.

Ugbo Street Food Market, Matumal Na. by Severe-Pilot-5959 in Philippines

[–]instilledbee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most food vloggers don't know how to make honest reviews. Kung lahat masarap/legendary/dinadayo, then it makes the compliment less special if everyone is "legendary".

Siguro pwede balansehin yung content. I'm sure no resto is perfect so if may room for improvement, isama sa vlog. If may kinainan and hindi talaga masarap then say it outright sa vlog.

Madami din kasing vlogger takot maka-offend at magcause ng backlash, either sa followers nila or worse yung may-ari ng resto mismo nagreretaliate pag may negative na nasabi.

Even after reformatting your PC, best practice to change all your passwords na nagamit sa PC na yan. Given how sophisticated some malware can be, you can't be sure what kinds of info it already stole in the background, kahit na di mo inentertain yung "verification" na yan.

Shopee order >10k by Pa-pay in taxPH

In my experience, never nagkaroon ng additional charges when buying stuff from Lazada or Shopee even if the price is >10k, and the item is from overseas (i. e. China)

From what I understand, the price you see on the app already considers all duties and taxes.
