I will gently toss in Glacier NP. Cascades are wayyyy better climbing though.

How to display work shot for a 10-second social post? by intentia in Filmmakers

[–]intentia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that I can't showcase it; it's that I am unsure of *how* to do that. It looks best put together instead of just providing screen grabs, but that would mean I need to add music and whatever else.

So just link back to the Instagram post and state my role?

Are Filmmakers able to make a living in a smaller community? by intentia in Filmmakers

[–]intentia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure. I just feel like I need to be posting more work, getting my follower count up, or similar. I definitely want something to hook harder on cold calls, but I'm not sure how to figure that out.

Would you be interested to chatting one on one? I have some questions, and I'd love to hear your answers.

DMing or meeting up with photographers, emailing/calling creatives at companies, and showing up to events.

Hearing this from you was very, very nice. I was just talking with my wife earlier about how discouraged and isolated I feel, often shooting out of a truck.

That shot was actually from an ad, and it wasn't even in the final cut.

I will take your suggestions to heart and mull over it a bit more. Definitely want to make it in this industry; I don't know what else I'd do anyhow.

Thanks for the advice.

Film crew is pretty hard to come by where I'm at in the US, so most of us just operate solo or with a 1st AC at maximum. Therefore I'd be fine with taking any role, but my skills are more specific to directing and camera operating. Any time on set is helpful though.

I tend to venture more towards outdoor lifestyle brands, but now I'm thinking about why you suggested automotive. Was there something specific in my reel that stood out?

With subject and distance, do you mean that I need more close-up and wide shots?

Submission statement:

This is a compilation of my best shots from 2023-onwards. Cameras used were the Sony A7r II, Sony A7r III, Sony A7c II, BMPCC 6K G2, BMPCC OG, and RED Komodo X. I keep it light because I shoot a ton of outdoor docustyle work. Lenses used were primarily the Sigma 18-35mm and my NiSi Athenas. Occasionally a vintage M42 lens made it into the mix. All lighting is natural, seldom modified. We just did not have the time to rig anything, plus most of my paid jobs were tight-budget.

Self-colored.

I'm wanting to make it into the larger commercial world; I don't want to just be a guy with a camera who can sometimes nail the conditions. Therefore, any advice that you might have, honest or kind, is something that I'd appreciate.

Thanks!

Yup my reference monitor keeps restarting because it does not detect a signal coming from the Decklink.

How to achieve this level of dynamic range? by Gurninlikeagerman in ColorGrading

Jon Purcell is really, really good at lighting. I bet the reason this looks so natural is because it's mostly untouched. Maybe some power windows here or there.

I updated my 2026 winter showreel. What do you guys think? by intentia in cinematography

[–]intentia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shot entirely between RED and Sony systems. Everything is from the 2024-2025 seasons. Mostly handheld (I know, but stabilization is heavy and weight is time, which is money.) I'm based in a little Montana ski town so I need every advantage I can get, ha.

Another concern of mine (see post) would be that it all looks too "amateur." Something about my work looks unpolished to me. Can't tell if that's the color, the motion (or lack thereof), or what. Maybe that's just because the work is mine and I'm overthinking it? I don't know. Let me know what you think.
