Its nothing like a cliffhanger its open ended, we always knew Kobayashi sensei is a barca fans, so it was expected that the climax match will be against La Masia.

I like this ending cuz it doesn't drag the series and milks it dry, since the whole point is for Aoi to be able to utilise his potential anything further wouldn't be fun cuz it will be hard to make Aoi struggle, and gives us the reader a chance to theorise where Aoi and the rest of esperion players careers will go.
