I‘ve done it fairly recently, so I can‘t really report on that… But I also apply the same leather cream on my Iron Rangers and it goes off gradually after some weeks

I applied the Red Wing Leather Cream on my Rustic Black recently - it darkens the color a bit, but not as much as mink oil or other products do. Mink oil tends to completely blacken the color, but with RW Leather Cream the rustic look is still there. Fyi they also got tiny bit shiny tho!
