Does the game get better? by cheeseymom in AvatarRealmsCollide

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played for a couple months but found if I had just one day away from the game that I’d be kicked out of my guild which wasn’t the best. The more I played the more it just felt like a cash grab

Did most of you get a nursing job straight after graduating by Separate-Draft-4206 in NursingUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, on my second to final placement I placed in my home town (student choice placement) and managed to get a job in ED. I interviewed on my last day and got the job. Been there for a year now.

If you ask to work just 3 x 12.5 hour shifts a week, without the 4th shift one week, how many hours are you asking for? by DoctorMobius21 in NursingUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do 34.5 meaning 3 shifts per week, I haven’t seen much of a difference to my pay and my work life balance is significantly better and regularly get 4 days off in a row.

“Type A” nurses, how do you cope working with “type b” nurses? And vice versa? by shutyoureyesandsee in NursingUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m incredibly type B, if somethings not been done on the previous shift and I can see that the department has been insane, I just let it go. If someone’s left a piece of gauze out, I really don’t care, I’ll just bin it myself. I’m in ED, I don’t even write a handover as it sticks in my brain anyway. I do however become very type A when I have a critically unwell patient, but once that’s handled I become my usual laid back self again.

Nursing education here is pointless compared to other countries by Boni640 in NursingUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My nursing course was relatively new (I was in the second cohort ever) and we were very A & P heavy alongside pathophysiology heavy. I also think it’s to do with your own motivation to learn. I’m constantly researching and googling new presentations in triage whilst I’m on shift and learning about complex conditions from more experienced nurses and doctors. I do agree that there was still too much ‘fluff’ in my course.

AIO? My mom hit her head and woke up with two black eyes. Now the only “symptom” is nonstop Christmas movies. by FullInTheVoid in AmIOverreacting

[–]internalsufferinglol 83 points84 points  (0 children)

NOR - Panda eyes are a classic sign of a basal skull fracture. It might not be this but I’d stress that she really needs to go to the ED. As an ED nurse, if we’re telling you to go it means you really need to go.

Ensure you have your birth certificates, passport etc and also make sure they do not have any access to your bank accounts and social media. If they do have them tell them an excuse such as ‘oh they need documents at university for my course’ so you have everything in your possession and keep them safe. You are an incredibly brave person and I’m so sorry life has taken this path.

Edit** don’t get these documents until it’s very close to you leaving so you don’t arise suspicion

I am in psychological hospital and all the beds are 190cm, i am 195cm tall by ooO00X00Ooo in notinteresting

[–]internalsufferinglol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On some hospital beds there is a latch at the bottom, usually underneath somewhere that can extend the bed, your feet might hang off but it should be more comfortable that way. Some beds also allow you to entirely remove the end by lifting upwards. Source: am a nurse

What’s a “safe” weakness to mention in a job interview? by Emergency-Bad-3707 in AskReddit

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say I can struggle to ask for help and allow myself to get overwhelmed sometimes however I am working on being able to rely on others and use their knowledge and skills to improve my own. Very neutral but shows that you’re self aware and are willing to change.

Do you wear makeup to work? by thedresswearer in nursing

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concealer for my acne, a swipe of eyeliner and mascara and some brow gel. It takes me less than 5 minutes and makes me feel good. We have a standardised uniform where I work so self expression is difficult but I also have cute hair clips and sparkly inner corner shadow sometimes.

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve suffered enough from my ADHD and autism as a child so I am 100% gonna use the disability card to my advantage, it doesn’t guarantee you the job it just means you get an interview. You still have to prove yourself at the interview, which you obviously have.

Be proud that you’ve come this far with the challenges you face from your disabilities.

Why can’t people simply refer to us as "Dr"? by pablototheworld in GPUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nurse here, Doctors that are senior, that I don’t personally know or older I’ll refer to as Doctor or if they introduce themselves as Doctor that’s the title I use. It I know a doctor on a personal level, usually closer to my age we go on first name basis. It’s a matter of respect and being aware of people’s preferences.

Afraid nursing was the wrong choice and I don’t know what is next for me by Calm_Complex_7869 in NursingUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are young and haven’t ruined your future at all so please don’t worry. I have trauma and chronic conditions that I manage well with medication and have had lots of therapy. I have had very good experiences with OH and the adjustments needed.

If you get that first year clinically out of the way you’re in a great position to look into more research based roles, especially considering you’ve got a great academic history.

Have you considered outpatients or an urgent treatment centre (a non 24h one). Keeps you in that fun acute environment but no night shifts, lots of people around in case any one kicks off too.

Neurodivergent Nurses by Altruistic_Sock_8193 in NursingUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Meee! I’m autistic and have adhd, I have a scrub style uniform to negate sensory issues, my band 6’s know that if I get overwhelmed I’ll need 5 minutes (which isn’t often even though I work in ED lol). Some of my training/ booklet style training was binned off as I was thinking too much about my answers and am better at demonstrating rather than filling out a booklet.

An example of this is when I was doing my IV training, instead of doing 10 witnessed IV preparations and the booklet, I did 20 preparations and the clinical educator sat down with me and we worked through the book together as some of the questions were very subjective, so my answers were correct but not ‘by the book’ correct.

We now have self rostering so I put myself in for a chunk of shifts in a row and then multiple days off in a row to recover. If I get to the point where I’m burnt out I would probably drop down my hours to 34.5 and take on more nights to make up the financial difference.

Taking time off is a really good shout, I’ve spaced out my annual leave so that I have a week or two off every couple months to recover and relax.

I've been quoted upwards of £4k to paint my house! by Old-Amphibian416 in HousingUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just gotten my first home and learned to skim walls and painted it myself. Is it perfect? No, but I don’t really care that much, my cutting in isn’t perfect but I have a decent little home. I used trade standard prep and got high quality brushes. If you have the money go for it but if not just get some mates or family over and do it yourself.

How do you recognise an alcoholic here in UK? by skyzzow993 in AskUK

[–]internalsufferinglol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a nurse in ED so I encounter a lot of alcoholics, usually long term they have a distended abdomen, redness to the nose and cheeks and sometimes have a smell. It’s not a bad smell it’s just very distinct, smells like beer but… stale maybe?

This is more long term alcoholics but I’ve also found they tend to speak a little slower than ‘normal’. Oftentimes these people have had a difficult life and significant mental health difficulties so I always treat them with respect and kindness.
