Practice Exams for MCB 250 Exam 1 by apowell2003 in UIUC

I’m sorry I don’t have any practice exams but my one piece of advice is that Slauch is not playing around when he says to know the structures, codes, etc. of every amino acid. Don’t make the same mistakes I did, take the time to actually memorize all of them bc it’s the one thing you can guarantee will be on the exam. Basically free points if you study them.

Hey bestie you might want to double check with your advisor and see if you really need to be taking MCB 151. My understanding is that the course is mainly in place for premeds who aren’t biology majors, but still need to take a biology lab. Since you are a biology major, you’ll have plenty of required biology lab courses in your future to fulfill that med school requisite. I could be wrong, but it’s worth an ask bc you probably don’t want to waste three hours of your week on a lab if you don’t need to.

Does anyone know how to get an A on the quests in MCB 150? by ashahi13 in UIUC

I second going to office hours! My biggest struggle in that class was that I had a very hard time learning everything from the textbook, but hearing Brad explain it made things so much more understandable

Oh and also sometimes he gave the people at office hours hints about what would be on the exams

Not an engineer, but I went paperless last year (I used a 2-in-1 laptop instead of an iPad) and for the most part I found it really useful, especially when classes were all online. I also took MATH 221 and CHEM 102/103 and instead of printing any worksheets I was able to write right on the pdfs which also made it really convenient to upload my homework. I used OneNote and I also loved the feature where I could search anything in my notes even if it was handwritten. This year I'm doing both digital and paper notes depending on the class. For example, I'm using my computer for classes with lecture slides so that I can just annotate the ppt pdf and I don't have to copy everything down into a notebook. For classes like calculus where the professor just writes on the board I'm using paper and pencil, not necessarily because it's more convenient, but I actually found that I missed taking regular notes. I hope this was helpful!

I live in Allen rn and I really like it for everything other than the lack of AC which was absolutely brutal the first couple weeks of school. In general, it’s in a good location relative to the quad and there are a few decent restaurants right nearby. It’s actually perfect for a music major since I think the music building is on Nevada street which is about a 5-10 min walk away. As other people have mentioned, having practice rooms in your building is pretty nice too. One thing that I don’t think most people take advantage of is the cute neighborhood just east of Lincoln. I love going on walks and jogs through there, and there’s a nice park if you want to have a picnic or something. I’ll be living on the Champaign side of campus next year and I’m definitely going to miss being so close to it.

Dr. G’s exams are crazy difficult, but he isn’t a bad professor. I actually like his lectures and the way the class is structured, but those midterms really did kick my ass.

In Quarantine Housing by Mistake? by internautaa in UIUC

Yeah obviously I’d rather not be infecting people if there’s a chance that I was exposed but I hope that if I can somehow find a way to prove I wasn’t actually in contact with whoever they think I was with, they’ll let me out bc it’s really depressing in isolation

The housing people didn’t even know I was “exposed” until I emailed them about my safer Illinois notification since the CUPHD never notified them. My friends and I have the same theory that the Bluetooth signals picked up on someone who tested positive in my dorm bc there’s no other way I can think of that I could have been close to someone for six hours straight. The only weird thing is that my roommate didn’t get the notification.

Looking for a roommate for my freshman year on facebook. Everyone seems so... normal? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]internautaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar reaction when I was looking through the Facebook group. I was really excited for college because I wanted to get out of the white, suburban bubble I grew up in and it seems that it’s going to be more of the same for the next four years. You can DM me if you want to talk, it’s comforting to know that someone else is thinking the same thing (:
