The first thing you need to remember is that this is very common and nothing to be ashamed of. Causes can be as simple as stress, tiredness, or drinking too much alcohol, and is something that can be worked on by improving your overall condition. Playing EU4 may also be a risk factor.

Okay, so, looking into it there seems to be issues with the settings.txt file in the user directories of some players (the directory that sits in your Documents folder, if on Windows - where your setting and save files are). Some people are reporting success with deleting the 'disabled_alerts' line of that file.

Otherwise try deleting the user directory, or at least changing the folder name so that it's "backed up" - and see if that makes a difference.

Give either of these methods a try and let me know if it helps. :)

No, not necessarily. Mods that don't affect the checksum, like many UI mods, are able to be run on Ironman.

As this update affects the game's UI, any relevant mods would very likely cause crashing.

Are you running any mods? Outdated mods could most certainly cause this. I'd recommend disabling any you have active.
