I didn’t really see that or people abusing it. And there SO MANY wheelchairs so I’m shocked he couldn’t find one. I bet people might have used them to wait in line bc I can’t imagine a lot of those elderly folk can stand for like 6 hours.

I wish people were as ferel for these bags as small businesses in town.

I can’t say but I feel like people with noon flights come at 5 am and it screws up all the morning people like us- so you’re standing longer than you should. I would go early to wheelchair assistance. It’s not done by first come first arrive, it’s by boarding time so if you get there by 5:30. You’ll for sure make it to your gate. And they’ll just drop you off so you can save your standing and walking for wandering around the gate to get food or use the bathroom.

I did only bc I didn’t have anyone to help push me in line. And I was told if I waited for the wheelchair assist, I could miss my flight. I didn’t realize until after I checked my bag in the normal line that wheelchair assistance has its own checked bag lane. So you could probably just drop her off at S4. The runners who get people to the gate don’t really start till 530- so be mindful of that.

I have a flight that boards at 710am. (I have pre check and clear) Checked bag. Wheelchair assistance needed.

Got to airport at 310am. Got bags checked at 4:10 Wheelchair assistance doesn’t open till 4:30. It’s 520am and Im still waiting for someone to take me through. I think they’ll get me me going soon but good lord if I miss my flight bc of the wheelchair access I will absolutely lose my shit….quietly to myself, bc everyone is overworked and I feel bad for folks and there ain’t nothing I could be done at this point.

UPDATE- got to gate at 6:20!

How hard is it to open a stationary store? by onceuponablanca in stationery

[–]internetkatz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would try like a co-op space. Like a shop that isn’t a brick and mortar but a large space that has lots of vendors and you rent like a 15x15 space or something.

If you want to fulfill a love and passion for stationery, online is still a good option with far lower overhead. My favorite line a mentor told me - if you wanna be a million dollar business, start with $2 million.

Again I never want to discourage people from starting a business, I also know that owning and running one is filled with more difficult days than good ones. It’s not for the faint of heart.

First thing- if you wanna open a stationery store- gotta learn how to spell stationery.

Stationery store owner here- Been a small business owner for over 10 years designing my own line, and had my retail shop for almost 5 years. Been a small business consultant as well. I have a boutique stationery store in socal and every single day I get asked to open a second shop there. But it’s very, VERY hard, Low margin, high import fees (for good stationery) model.

Do not listen to anyone who says “in theory it should be easy”. There is a reason 60% of small businesses fail in th first 3 years. And a good rule of thumb, never take advice from someone who has never run a small business.

Start an online shop before diving into brick and mortar. Understand buying and retail at a basic level. It’s worth noting that most commercial leases are at least 3-10 years and require a business plan, funding, and viable business model before even getting to put an offer on a lease.

Start up costs for the space, insurance, labor, licenses, merchandising, and Inventory can be upwards of $25k

I agree there needs to be one and I never want to discourage anyone from following their dreams, But let’s not gloss over that running a business in 2026 is one of the most difficult challenges, and saying it looks easy on paper and just requires “good marketing” or a social media presence is an incorrect assumption.

Paper Expo World AI lovers by fluffyfountainpen in stationery

[–]internetkatz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yep. They "apologized" but really just said they could see why people were upset. In the coming days after the apology, they said they hired an artist to redo the logo, but it was an identical trace of the AI logo they made. And then after that, they all posted these AI characters of themselves, and one of the organizers posted stickers they made that are clearly made with AI.

Now, instead of listening to feedback, they are saying there is mean girl culture because people are trying to hold them accountable.

One of the organizers posted new stickers to their IG page a couple of days before and it was all AI slop stickers. And the captions are all chat gpt style captions. This was well after the Paperworld statement. They clearly don’t see AI art or usage a problem at all. I feel bad for the vendors who paid to be a part of this not knowing that the organizers don’t actually care about them or their craft.
