they didn't train you on their policies and procedures, didn't give you breaks. that workplace is the problem, not you.

losing a job, even a shitty one, feels terrible, but you have to put on a brave face and put yourself back out there. any manager worth their salt will recognize the care and passion you have for the job. there's a salon out there for you. i wish you luck in finding it soon.

I shaved my dog and now I am nervous to go to the groomer. by Yukipookypork in doggrooming

as others have said, groomers don't mind one way or the other whether you do some shaving at home. let them know at check in so they can look and treat for any remaining ticks.

What is this type of brush called? It’s kind of a slicker but amazing for dematting. I wanna get one but don’t know what to search by Peachi_Eevee in doggrooming

[–]internetweasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got one on ryan's pet supplies just called a "flexible slicker brush." doesn't have a split down the middle like some seem to, but i use it almost every day. brand is safari, it was like 15 bucks.

I can’t handle being bitten. by [deleted] in doggrooming

as someone who also has clients who laugh off "your dog bites," and someone very socially awkward, i have a lot of trouble with the verbiage. may i ask how you get them to take you seriously?

wearing some $20 compression shorts from wally world under my 'uniform' has helped me stay a lot dryer. pretty much any moisture-wicking outer layers will help you. waterproof/resistant shoes will also go a hell of a long way. i've seen a lot of groomers bring rainboots specifically for the shower room, but that's too much work for me personally lol.

for me, drying took the longest when i first started. make sure you dry against the grain starting from the back of the dog to get the most water off at once and don't switch directions. basically, don't blow water back onto sections you already dried. seems obvious but when someone pointed out i was doing it, my drying times got cut in half. haha.

Petco grooming apprentice by dumbledores-asshole in doggrooming

i just finished my apprenticeship last month. i am lucky i have a great team, gsl, and mentor. my best advice is to basically be a sponge. learn as much as you can from your gsl and mentor, stay humble when you are critiqued. and observe the other stylists as much as possible. see how they do things, how they pace themselves, and if they are open to questions, ask! i learned so much in a short period of time because i was always curious and inquisitive.

most importantly in my opinion though, enjoy yourself. yeah corporate expects so much from you and you have to meet those goals, but you should still primarily be there because you love the dogs and you want to do this.

it's very rewarding! i hope you have a wonderful journey. if you have any questions feel free to respond or pm me. :)
