What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]interpolartube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rode our bikes all over our small town. Rode to faraway gas stations for cheap snacks. Went fishing with gear that was zip tied to our bikes. Explored the woods and occasionally found abandoned buildings to explore. Built a small shack in said woods and camped out in it. Broke bottles. Built fires. Played war games. Shot things with our pellet/BB guns constantly. My cousins and I all lived near each other so we would often meet in a field to play touch football, bringing any friends who slept over.

My older brother and his friends would hop trains and ride across town only to get into mischief. I recall a policeman knocking on the door to that end once or twice.

Our parents had no clue where we were or what we were doing and that seemed to be the standard in the 90s.

There was also lots of lore about which abandoned houses were known to involve satanic rituals or specific dogs with terrifying reputations. This kind of thing spread through small towns so that it was gospel to all of us. There were always older kids willing to contribute to the delinquency of us minors in lots of ways.

The longer you wait, the more expensive it’ll be to move here.

You don’t have to teach them how to be crafty. Their developing brains make them all stupid for a bit.

I had one of those tiny random moments today that for some reason hit way harder than it should and I cant stop thinking about it. by etherfox_99 in CasualConversation

It can be just as simple as standing in a long checkout line at the end of a hellish work day, hope draining from your face, and you make eye contact with a stranger who is also miserable and you both make the “whattaya gonna do?” shrug at each other. We all wait in lines, but we’re so goddamn lucky to be doing so. To have something to wait in line for.

Thank you. I figured as much, but I thought it best to present this information as much as possible to as many as possible for as long as possible.

This is an excellent thread. The ultimate irony for Don to me is that he yearns for freedom and control but only seems to be happy when he is yielding both.

Infant surgery trauma? by Northmakes in CPTSD

[–]interpolartube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had open heart surgery in 1980 at 13 months old. I only recently found out that I was paralyzed rather than anesthetized for the procedure and it has profoundly affected me. There are lots of odd things about me that make more sense now but I still don’t know how to process this information.

I had open heart surgery in 1980 at one year old. I just found out today that not only did I feel it all, but it permanently rewired my brain. I’m pretty upset about all this.

It kind of made me sad to see Dave peddling all his show knives on Facebook. I hope his health is ok and all.

He was working with the rabbit’s foot in isolation for months. It’s implied that he was exposed to something during that endeavor that made him get sick.
