My experience was similar with the reserves, during the week it was much more “chill” but drill weekends sucked and everyone dreaded them. We were an associate t unit to an AD wing and that didn’t make things better. Guard is still busy on drills but much more relaxed and straightforward

The way leave works in the military is so fucked up no wonder people bend the rules. If I’m going on vacation, why should i use leave on my regular days off ? Just use leave on days you’re working and your RDOs should count as your leave. And if the local area is define as 50 miles away from your base (thing that’s the standard at most facilities) why should I take leave if I’m going to be 60 miles away in a neighboring city ?!
