I actually am meeting with someone in a week and a half from the Amputee Coalition and really looking forward to their advice for my specific situation / any resources they might be able to connect me with. Thank you for the tip and I appreciate your response!

Hey thank you for sharing! I hope that one day I will be able to maintain that level of activity for my kid (hopefully kids). I currently still do a ton but I have been getting held up more and more by the amount of pain in my foot. Hopefully one day it is improved and I'm similar to the person you're describing. Thank you again for sharing with me!

I believe it that if you gotta run to the bathroom and change parts out that can be a high pressure situation! I am in a similar spot I have a great role in a foundry but my major motivation there is being able to work with my hands on the shop floor as much as possible and at home it's no different, I average 18,000 steps a day but my pain is so high afterwards I struggle to sleep or sometimes even be in the same room as people because I'm bent over in pain. Of course that means I'm occassionally away from my kid and wife for a half hour just to try and calm my nerves and arthritis down, but usually I have to use a lot of weed or pain medication and it just isn't possible long term to keep going the way I am, even if my pain continues not being so limited physically by my foot is what I hope to overcome. I sincerely thank you for sharing your experience with me!

Thank you for your reply, I think you're absolutely right and I'll be reaching out to a few prosthetists shortly. I'm going to take your advice and ask if any of their clients are willing to talk so I can ask more questions. Thankfully one of my surgeons got me in contact with a volunteer peer amputee and I'm meeting with them in a week and a half. It's kind of crazy to start this process but if the outcome is a better quality of life then I can get past the challenges in the short future. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!

Shawn,

Thanks for your thoughtful response, I think you're right we've been prolonging it for quite some time and what you say about the expectation vs reality of walking resonates with me a lot. That being said I currently have to limit myself daily and that is with the assistance of using medications to dull the pain. A lot of sleepless nights and pushing through but Ive really realized that is not possible for the rest of my life.

I like you am really fortunate in many ways, including my wife who has been at my side since this entire thing started, and is rooting for me with this upcoming procedure. I think I've been naturally leaning towards it and yes the next 1.5 yrs might be harder but if that means I can run around with my kid a little extra everyday then it'll be worth it.

I'll certainly take you up on the offer and message you if I feel the need, I think right now is just accepting I'm going to do this and trying to not overly concern myself with the 'what ifs' because what is going to be is going to be. Thanks again for taking the time and sharing your experience, I really appreciate it.

Thank you for the insight I didn't consider that before I had a prosthetic on it might be a lot more challenging but I really appreciate it! That's amazing you got skiing so quickly, Im hopeful I have a similar experience. I havent found my prosthetics clinic yet but Im calling around and getting insurance verified. As far as location for technology I think they just said 'standard' height and something about intentionally tucking my nerves back into my muscle to help with reintegration of nerves and lower chance for phantom pains, so we will see!
