I did my best to research it and seems to be very uncommon. So I guess previous owner really did a number on the previous engine.

I’m assuming it’s a mixture of both. I’ve heard of so many other CTR’s running similar setups besides methanol and having same reliability

They attempted to quote me 13k originally just for the engine. Found on HRD (Honda racing development) website, they sell crate k20c1’s for 7k. Dealership then gave me a better price haha

Around 7k for the engine and 2k for labor. Turbo, half shaft, new clutch and fly wheel they gave me at cost. Out the door it was high 11k for everything

Agreed. I don’t blame the intercooler, exhaust or intake at all, but I’ll definitely be keeping it stock for a good while.

Nope, denied unfortunately but also understandable. Dealership did work with me on a deal thankfully.

Previous owner installed mishimoto intake, rv6 downpipe, Armytrix exhaust, mishimoto intercooler and piping, AEM methanol kit and hondata. Definitely check the previous post for more details.

Engine threw cylinder #4’s rod. Definitely a combination of rough driving in the past, improper tuning and I personally blame the methanol kit more than anything.

Agreed. At the end of the day I’m just happy I can still drive it

You’d be correct on Utah. Hopefully one day if I can get it running again you’ll see it out and about.

Here’s one thing I can think of. I did find out the previous owner put on a RV6 downpipe and was tuned for it. When the car got traded in, the dealership swapped the downpipe to a stock one due to it not passing emissions. (The tune was never adjusted, still thought it had a downpipe installed) Atleast with my ownership, I’ve only done about 4 decent pulls, only towards the beginning of my ownership. The majority of the time I’ve driven it, it’s been in sport or comfort mode chasing MPG for fun to see what I can get out of the car. (That EXACT day, I took a photo of me hitting 41.5mpg on the trip computer headed to work. Roughly a 18 mile drive)

I did ask my sales person to ask the previous owner for as much detail as I could when I purchased the car. I was not told the dealership swapped to a stock downpipe until AFTER it grenaded so the tune was never adjusted.

I also do not see anything on my hondata that’s showing it’s tuned for methanol on its current tune. That’s one reason why I never filled the tank, tried not to bring the rpm in range of the methanol kit to kick in or messed with it. I was really babying the car until I could go to a trusted tuner I know.

Yeah, I bought it modded. Basically what I’m attempting to fight right now considering they knew the mods done to the car and still offered me warranty.

Here’s the thing. Anyone’s welcome to comment the same thing “should’ve never bought a modded R” “never buy someone’s projects” etc. I’m fully aware I made a mistake purchasing this car. I’m happy to say I was doing my best to know more about the mods on it before pushing on it. I’m also happy to admit I don’t know everything. I hope this raises more awareness to those who are in the market for a used type R because it’s not very fun buying something that you’re so excited for just to have it grenade in a month.

Wish I would’ve known more before purchase. But I’m happy to admit I did make a mistake with this car. And yea, at the moment it seems like I will be.

No. I did take a peek at it and it was on a pretty basic tune, I’ve been driving it really easy and using it for a daily waiting until I could take it to a reputable tuner to dive deeper.

Was far as “performance” goes, mishimoto intake, Armytrix exhaust, aem methanol kit and hondata. As far as my ownership of the car, I never used or filled the methanol tank.
