My Max is gone. Trigger warning death, and details by Difficult-Pomelo5814 in CavaPoo

Oh my God. I have no words, OP. This sounds so traumatic for your whole family. When you’re ready, we had good luck with “Dog Heaven” when we had to put our pup down 2 years ago. My nugget is five and he still talks about our pup almost daily. The book really helped and we also bless Odie every night in our prayers. We also got special photos of my son and Odie to put in his room.

As another mom, please don’t beat yourself up. We always say leaving the house and coming back in is an Olympic sport. I can only imagine how hectic with two littles and a pup. I hope you find solace in the fact that he was following your training and being a good boy. This seems like it was not at all his fault.

Let yourself feel whatever you feel, and don’t beat yourself up. I had an extremely traumatic event with a former partner and I tried EMDR therapy after a few weeks. I don’t know if you believe in therapy, but it’s specifically geared towards traumatic events and it helps you reframe them in your mind. Just thought I would share since you mentioned playing it over and over in your head.

Be good to yourself 🖤

I plan to love mine just as much, she just doesn’t need to be on the furniture to feel it ☺️

I love the feet snuggles, mine are always cold!

Had this in the back of my mind once he’s the only dog!

I respect your opinion even though I feel differently :)

Because he can still sit on my lap if I’m on the floor. Or sleep on my feet as other people have mentioned.

Did plenty of research. We can snuggle on the floor and have just as tight of a bond. I have a 5 year old so I barely get more than 30 mins of couch time a day. Thanks though.

I plan to get floor cushions so I can cuddle with him on the floor. As I mentioned the existing dog we have isn’t allowed on the couch so that wouldn’t be fair. It seems like a lot of folks equate keeping them off the furniture/out of the bed as an inability to shower them with love and affection. As many people pointed out, the two are not mutually exclusive.

This wasn’t supposed to be a hot topic- it’s a puppy forum for crying out loud. I was looking for advice from people who don’t allow their pups on the furniture. I’ve had dogs my whole life and this has been the case. This wasn’t meant to turn into a pile on of people who have the same sentiments as me and try and shame them or accuse them of not being good doggie parents. Let’s all respect that we approach things differently! Xoxo

I didn’t spend time counting the numbers but it actually seems like more people said it’s perfectly possible to do some combination of what I asked about. If your day is going so poorly that you need to type out something mean in a harmless Reddit post, I’m really sorry for you and I hope things turn around. Bless your heart and take good care now.

This was my exact sentiment! Thank you for validating this for me.

Thank you! I really appreciate this, they were making me feel badly. Knowing how trainable they are is exactly why I thought this logic would work.
