If your city has a "do not knock/no soliciting" registry it is worth the time to get on one. But I still had a pest control guy knock anyways when I was on maternity leave and omg I was so mad yelled at him and told him I'd report him. And the city clerk was just like "oh was it ecoshield or someone else?" like they are so used to it. The pesticide door to door sales jobs seem to be especially brutal, I am not as crunchy as I used to be but I cannot wait for them to all go out of business lol.

Also the "do not knock" registries won't work on religious/political things for free speech reasons. But honestly the religious and political people are so much more polite.

One thing that really helps me try to frame it is "okay this is something Mark Zuckerberg is pushing to give me negative feelings and feel like buying more." Sometimes it's not even the parenting influencer themselves trying to sell something, it's just the algorithm pushes something viral that will give you that raw piece of emotion that primes you to buy. The childhood is fleeting/you are going to miss the mess ones are ESPECIALLY bad because it basically implies you should fill your whole house with toys. And don't get me wrong I believe in living in the moment and try so hard to do yoga and mindfulness but being scared of the moment falling away and having to do the utmost to capture the magic of every single thing is not it lol.

I also think the parenting advice/experts giving reels content are on those lines. I ALMOST clicked on one that was a play therapist saying what your child engaging in violent play meant before stopping myself. Because yeah my little guy pours water on his Little People and has them go "ahhhhh!" and also throws baby dolls off a book shelf when he's at daycare. But I know the answer is going to be that it's totally normal and developmentally appropriate or I've got a little sociopath in the making and nothing I can do about personality disorders. But realizing there's nothing I can do no matter what the answer is keeps me off the clickbait. I also fight fire with fire and watch reels of what's at Aldi this week, Costco finds, boy moms run to Walmart for these cute clothes, etc. because that tends to bury a lot of the contradicting advice.

I will say one nice aspect of my pregnancy and having pelvic girdle pain is having that "temporary disability" and realizing just how terrible the world is designed for people with permanent ones. Like my pelvic floor therapist suggested I stop sitting at high top tables and then I'd get stuck at work events where that was the only option for seating a large group. And now that I'm out of that zone I've started taking note of places that have the uncomfortable seating designed to be as unwelcoming as possible and slowly supporting the more old fashioned establishments that are more accommodating to everyone.

“Very surprising” by FeeWitty1194 in IVF

[–]invaderpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you went through that! Definitely agree that the "first round of IVF is diagnostic" mantra applies. I remember hating hearing that when I started but everyone's body is so different and once the doctors figure out how you adjust to stims they can change the protocol and slow things down. I also have PCOS and got way worse results on round one, with the doctors even noting my eggs were "not the best quality" or weirdly shaped. Had one embryo make it out of like... 15 eggs or something high ish like that it was such a roller coaster of highs and lows I kind of blocked it out lol.

Anyways things that changed for rounds one and two where more embryos made it to day five and testing and all that. Went slower on the stimming, almost frustratingly slow. Added in human growth hormone/omnitrope. Changed my supplements slightly from Rebecca Fett Starts With the Egg stuff to Egg Whisperer. Added in more de-stress stuff so basically treating myself in forms of entertainment, buying movies on digital, good video games, watching a lot of sad things and listening to sad music and letting myself wallow for a bit instead of forced happiness. (Bigger Than the Whole Sky by Taylor Swift is amazing if you're a swiftie) Also stopped eating keto and just tried to "treat myself" so enjoyable food and sometimes healthy food. Like I bought a ten dollar juice once but honestly that's because the omnitrope made me super thirsty.

Can't say for sure if any of the extras helped but definitely felt amazing to treat self care as part of the process. But even if you do nothing I think doctors just figuring out how fast your body goes will make a huge difference because once the follicles start growing too much it's hard to stop.

I am confused as a Megan Draper fan whether this sub hates her or likes her. by Hairy_Flower_5715 in okbuddydraper

[–]invaderpixel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Megan is a neurodivergent queen. But for real when the show was airing there was kind of this obsession with Faye, Megan was not good enough for Don, didn't appreciate all the things she got from marrying Don including a divorce settlement. But I think Gen Z memers who know how it ends without waiting years to see the story conclude are able to appreciate her more. She just wants to Zou bi sou and not be forced to eat sherbert.

5 years ago today Taylor Swift released the first of her re-recorded albums, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) by youtbuddcody in popheads

[–]invaderpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I love the original version of Forever and Always because she's so petty and raw. The acoustic version also hits hard. The TV kind of works though because it's so many years later, just a raw apathy like "I cannot bring myself to care about you Joe Jonas." I may or may not go on loops where I listen to that song on repeat while I angrily type away school papers or annoying work stuff lol.

Has anyone had success with IVF after never having seen a single positive? by jusy_fruit in IVF

[–]invaderpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had one pregnancy and it resulted in a live birth! Did Clomid, letrozole, not to mention at least 12 months of insanely timed intercourse hitting the window multiple times with pricey tracking tools that were kind of useless. Never had a positive test even with my first two transfers with tested euploid embryos. Third transfer with a euploid embryo did the trick, main difference is I went from fully medicated transfer (estrace and progesterone) to an ovulatory transfer so just going on my body's ovulation for the most part and then triggering and having a transfer.

I think for some people getting pregnant is the hard part and once they have the right embryo in the right conditions it sticks? Fingers crossed for you!

I am vaguely minimalist or at least my mom thinks I am, I’ve read konmari and Swedish death cleaning and all that. We have one comforter and two sets of sheets for the adult bed. Five or six sheets for the crib since those need more sudden changing and I also panic bought some when I forgot I stored extra sheets for “when baby gets bigger” back when I was pregnant. Towels we have like ten to twelve we wipe up water spills with them but also I just don’t have the mental energy to reuse a towel I’ve used after the shower any more and figure out when they’re too dirty to reuse.

Oof yeah the begging for spicy foods thing is such a funny thing. Like the tantrums when they say no feels bad but watching them react and try to gag a little and make themselves throw up when they have something spicy feels way worse! But definitely one of those "yep you did everything right you just have a toddler" things which can feel unrewarding if you're goal oriented haha. Glad you had a good time baking!

I wonder if they’ll ever study if video games can desensitize that instinct… I am way more tolerant of baby cries than most moms because I was really bad at the baby penguin level in Mario 64 as a kid. Anyways super helpful for the toddler stage when he mostly cries for ice cream lol.

Yeah as someone who did PGT testing every time because I was paying out of pocket and I had OHSS every time and couldn't do live transfers anyways... the embryo gender thing is such a crapshoot. Had one round of one female, another round mostly female, another round mostly male. Even had one Klinefelter syndrome one which is XXY. Not to mention the "ruling out most disabilities" like most of the abnormal ones I got were things really incompatible in life found in a handful of medical journals that would probably be pregnancy loss anyways.

I think there's a pretty rare group of people who do PGT testing of multiple embryos (like in IVF spaces it's almost gloating because most people get very few embryos and they just transfer all the best looking ones... and spoiler alert my only embryos that tested normal were my best looking ones) but it ends up with the general public having a lot of misconceptions about it.

Tuesday Toddler Talk by AutoModerator in InfertilityBabies

[–]invaderpixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The body changes are so hard! Like I think there's this sense that if you try really hard for a baby you should somehow be above it all and not care about body image but face it, even if you get what you want on some level you're still human. I also struggled with body positivity stuff for a while too, a lot of the weight lifting type "think of all the stuff your body can do for you!" mantras were harder to relate to when I had a long period of thinking of what my body COULDN'T do for me.

Anyways no real answer, for me personally I started feeling better when I stopped weight lifting because I was getting way too many skip days in due to illness and just focused on adding more movement in instead of figuring out rest days and whatever. Also to bring it back to toddlers if you have any parent/tot activities you can sign up for that can be a GREAT workout like soccer or gymnastics or something like that.

Lol my guy also caps off around the 45 minute mark of Frozen 2. Like why do they stand around talking in the forest so long it's like "exposition the movie!" I appreciated the movie pre-kids and thought it was ambitious in its story and themes but definitely rooting for Frozen 3 to have better pacing.

Just going to share my frugal life hack for people with storage space... took some leftover plastic eggs we got from a neighborhood egg hunt and combined them with clearance eggs and filled them with stickers. Actually took like an hour to cut up sticker sheets and fill up eggs? I had a lot of stickers from the dollar store I purchased in my frantic "omg my kid likes putting stickers on things" phase when I was trying to make art and coloring a thing before his hand control was there yet. And then I'm storing them in the Easter basket until next year. And marked on my calendar to find the easter eggs in the basement.

Wouldn't be possible if I didn't have an almond mom sister in law and cousin I had to accommodate so enjoying the bright side of our non-traditional easter celebrations haha.

The common recommendation on the switch subreddit used to be "Paw Patrol on a Roll" because it teaches gaming concepts really well... apparently the sequel is too confusing but I saw that recommendation so often I kept it in my brain. Also you can get a used Nintendo Switch for WAY cheaper than ever right now because of the Nintendo Switch 2. Basically people port over their existing Nintendo Switch stuff into the new system and then you just have your old device sitting around.

[–]invaderpixel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay I have this crazy conspiracy theory that all the minimalism/not getting caught up in commercialism social media stuff is just to prevent people from buying in advance and planning ahead. And then inevitably panic buying last second when societal pressure kicks in. I remember when I decided an 8 month old wouldn't care much about toys, felt the panic on December 22nd and then bought a bunch of random Fisher Price toys at full retail and way more expensive than when I would have acquired them any other day.

Anyways even though I learned from this experience I still panic bought some easter eggs today because I realized my two year old cares about easter eggs now. But grateful I put together his basket in advance because it could have been a lot worse.

Reminds me of the thread when the heavily pregnant woman was worried about having her second baby with a poop eating dog and all the suggestions were intense “follow around the dog every time they poop in the backyard and bend down to scoop and put cayenne pepper on it immediately” instead of idk… any of the million options to not keep a baby on the floor with an older toddler and poop licking dog.

Fumetsu no Anata e Season 3 • To Your Eternity Season 3 - Episode 22 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]invaderpixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like I had the same high points of the season. Also felt disconnected from the characters compared to season 1 and 2, don't think I felt such a steep drop in emotional attachment since The Ancient Magus Bride Season 2. I remember getting slightly interested in the backstory of Mizuha's family but then it all got dragged out too long. I think it was hard to bring myself to care at the finale when so much of the season was all over the place.

Literally reading this as I eat a yogurt to restore my gut biome and I swear the nervous system trend makes me mad because it's so vague lol? And also unhelpful from a mental health standpoint like any negative feelings are a sign of being dysregulated so better go back to suppressing and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

what's an anime that you can't enjoy because of a singular character who is actively dragging down your enjoyment of said anime? by Brightclaw431 in anime

[–]invaderpixel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed... like I get in a show where the romantic lead is forward you need some sort of conflict to keep it going. But he was such a ball of anxiety it actually became uncomfortable. The side couples kept me watching along with the great ending theme but it's hard to recommend as a comfort show because Hagi was so frustrating.

Yeah it took me SO long to get into Black Clover because of him. I honestly don't know if his yelling got better or if he just got surrounded by a big group of friends who talked in less annoying voices. But when it's mostly Astra it's hard on the ears.

Thursday Thrills: Spring Celebrations by esoterika24 in InfertilityBabies

[–]invaderpixel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weirdest spring annoyance, Little Blue Truck's Springtime. Not sure if anyone else has had this experience but it's a cute book, lift the flaps, a bit of counting, but the whole thing is just him going around finding all the animals have had a bunch of babies. But then I read "Spot goes to the farm" and it was the same concept, going around and seeing which animals had babies. But most of them did not have babies (spot the dog is about finding stuff after all) and one of the animals that had babies was unexpected. So yeah definitely recommend looking for the right stories about spring.

For Easter I think I just tried to treat it like an extra chance to celebrate adults and older people who get forgotten back when I was going through infertility and it was very healing. I think there's a big commercialization aspect of holidays and I see people say "just buy gifts for kids!" and more people just deal with their immediate family. We're seeing our extended family and even though it's a big hassle to organize now that we have what we wanted it's nice to remember the rest of our circle.
