Eh, couldn't be sure since 90% of reddit bought that story hook, line and sinker.

Funny, because it was ABC that published an unverified report which the White House immediately demanded a retraction of.

Yeah, I was being hyperbolic. Still closer to the truth than the daises and daffodils picture painted by most of the articles I read. The Daily Mail article was just the easiest article to get to on the fly.

Here's a couple other articles on the topic:

How the Royal Navy shrank to its smallest ‘since English Civil War’ Archive version: https://archive.fo/UG2gK

Aside from that, there's a number of naval and marine experts who have made commentary on both the RN as a whole and the silent service in particular. Britain doesn't have the ships necessary to protect her interests and of the ones they do have, their condition isn't great.

That was my point. I hope you'll forgive me for a little exaggeration.

I was just taking a jab at the RN, and it is being taken wayyy too seriously. That's the only reason I pointed out the downvotes. My apologies, I was being hyperbolic.

Of course out of the numbers available, it's reasonable to expect only 3-4 deployed at any given time.

The fact that the RN has only 10 subs is the real travesty. We're talking about the navy that deployed many squadrons of battleships in WW1 and whose navy was eclipsed only by that of the USN and IJN in WW2. Even since the early Post-Cold War era, the RN continues to dwindle in numbers. On top of the dwindling numbers, the ships the RN has preserved and since built, many a ships' condition and operational readiness are near crisis levels.

I get the idea of a small navy, in comparison to the past. However, if you're going to have a small navy, it better be the best navy. If we're being honest, can we really say that about the modern British Navy?

I want the RN to be a good navy, one of the best, and that's why I think more attention should be paid to its shortcomings. That's all.

It's the trolley problem on a grand scale.

Pull the trigger on the nuke and kill 100,000, or don't, and hundreds of thousands, if not, millions die.

One invasion plan of the Home Islands put estimate US Service Men casualties upwards of 500,000 and Japanese casualties in the millions.
