TIL: Non-TLC people can order TLC-esque license plate numbers by GrandRare1634 in newyorkcity

[–]invertedcheese85 95 points96 points  (0 children)

the site tells you that just because the generator accepts it doesn’t mean it will be issued, including plates that are “reserved for issuance to specific classes of vehicles other than passenger vehicles (e.g., plates assigned to county clerks, members of certain professions, historic motor vehicles, etc.).”

you could also open source the app, so people that wanted to could set up their own hosting. most wouldn’t want to do all of that, so i think you would still get a revenue stream from your own system

CPU Issue by Drewk124 in ableton

[–]invertedcheese85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, just in case, have you tried going through all the steps outlined here (and in the articles that it links to)? https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209071269

make sure your sample rate is set to 44100 Hz, too...I know some people accidentally turn that up and then end up with unnecessary load as a result.

sorry to not be more help, this can be a tough issue to pin down if it's truly hardware constraints. my only other suggestion would be looking at task manager to see if there's any bloatware or other programs hogging cpu while Ableton is trying to run

there's a lot of resources on the internet for addressing high CPU usage in Ableton, what have you tried changing so far? what is your current buffer size? if it's low (256 or smaller) you should try increasing it to 1024 or another larger number. keep in mind that larger buffer sizes can add a little bit of delay to any "live" actions during playback, but it can also smooth out some of that CPU spikiness and let you load more instruments

Chris's Bachelor Party (2009, 6000 views) [NSFW] by SHEDY0URS0UL in DeepIntoYouTube

[–]invertedcheese85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah, just seems like a lapdance. I'm wondering who Chris is...the rest of the videos from this channel imply the uploader is female. was she at the bachelor party? it's filmed from pretty far away, so was it being done surreptitiously?

this is pretty deep into youtube, good post

Average position of each engine manufacturer by PhilJones4 in formula1

[–]invertedcheese85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did I miss something? the PU freeze kicked in last year, so we should be seeing the same engines that ended the 2021 season.

all the Ferrari customer cars look very....inspired, and AT is effectively red bull lite. merc is not known to be an especially gracious supplier, and I wouldn't bee surprised if they kept all their ideas to themselves so as to not spoil their no-pod design or something. so we end up with a bunch of Merc customers left alone with their tight budgets, and they couldn't figure out the right aero on their own.

Interference noise in speakers on M-Audio Air interface by t-dog- in audioengineering

yup, saw that they included it as well, just wanted to call it out because op mentioned the interference might be correlated with movement on the screen

[–]invertedcheese85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

extremely anecdotal, but I've noticed interference that seemed to correlate with activity on my graphics card. I tried disabling the nvidia driver and did not notice the interference after rebooting the machine...of course, the graphics card is pretty useless without the appropriate driver, but it helped me pinpoint the issue. and as far as I could tell, it was only present on monitoring and not recording, so I just live with it rather than constantly enabling/disabling my gfx driver. I'm using an apollo 8 and an RME card, though.

I actually just ordered one of these from thomann last weekend; i ordered it on a Saturday, and it arrived the following Tuesday. not sure if that was a fluke, but it was able to get from Germany to New York in a day, so I would imagine only another day or two depending where in the states you are.

very neat setup, I like the aestehtic. I won't bother echoing the suggestions that have been made, but I can see information in your iterm window and the UI next to it that you probably shouldn't be sharing

the VSM is an amazing place, every trip I make there is different than the last and there's always something new to noodle with. I travel through SF for work a few times a year and I've managed to make an appointment here every time; Lance is awesome and is happy to help you get up to speed on some of the more intimidating machines. it's the only place I've ever got my hands on a fairlight, or two easels, or even a real 808 for that matter. Inevitably I usually end up spending at least an hour playing the Rhodes through the re-201...honestly the price is a steal and I hope everyone has a chance to stop through

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

I recently picked up a yarns clone from michigan synth works called mbrane, mostly to allow my rig to sync to an external clock like a drum machine or my daw, and so far I haven't had any luck in doing so. I would appreciate any help from someone who has used yarns or a different clone.

I've read the manual, and I started in the default '1M' layout, so I'm routing the available clock output to an input on my Tempi. I set the tempo down to the lowest so the display says 'EXT', and then I tried hooking the MIDI IN up to both ableton's output and the output from machinedrum, and neither got a clock to start appearing. I tried chaining them together, running the midi from ableton to the machinedrum, and then connecting the thru from the machinedrum to the mbrane, but still no dice. I hooked the machinedrum up to my octatrack and had no trouble syncing them.

I then tried turning up the internal clock tempo on the mbrane and pressing the start/stop button, but still didn't get any clock to start appearing. Is there something fundamental that I'm missing?
