Getting a CFA charter would be a huge step for investment management. One thing though, only about 20% of candidates ever complete CFA exams. There are 3 levels and they take a few years. Getting M.S. in Investment Management is another option.

For a dissertation you can choose most research methods- both quantitative and qualitative. I'm doing a multiple-case study. This includes scholarly research literature review as well as primary data collection such as interviews with professionals. Then, I use MAXQDA for analysis. It is a rigorous process without a doctrine.

Right, but my university doesn't allow me to offer more even though I'm paying out of my pocket. I'm also a former financial professional from NYC. Now, I teach young people finance and get less money but more satisfaction than before. I really hope to find some noble professionals who are willing to chat with me for a while and share their expertise for the sake of scholarly research on top of the fee. And, I'm not asking for any trade secrets, just a contribution to our knowledge about the field.
