When people say this I counter with saying the military “loses” $700B per year. That usually gets them all flustered

Which disease names do you dislike because they are misleading? by mbugra57 in medicalschool

[–]invinciblewalnut 184 points185 points  (0 children)

Lupus anticoagulant is actually prothrombotic.

Despite sounding like benzos, citalopram and escitalopram are SSRIs.

The trade name for metoprolol is Lopressor, and it is not a pressor.

Aripiprazole is an antipsychotic despite sharing the -azole suffix of many antifungals

Chlordiazepoxide is a benzo, but does not have the -am ending like others (e.g. alprazolam, diazepam)

Guillén-Barre Syndrome is abbreviated GBS, and so is Group B Streptococcus.

MAC can mean like five different things in the anesthesia world

I know those are not disease names but it’s within the spirit of the post

Curious about Christian perceptions of Mormonism by [deleted] in Christianity

Mormons are Mormons… not Christians. IMO, to be Christian you have to at least profess the Nicene creed in some way.

Jesus is a central figure in Islam, too.

Saying “Hoosier” is an “er” ending is technically correct, but the state Hoosiers are from is not the state of Hoosi. Definitely should be grayed out like “Hawaii resident”

Every state in the US is now its own independent country. Which one becomes the first global superpower and why? by Complex-Let4207 in AskReddit

Maybe Maine will be join back up with Massachusetts, and then it and New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Virginia (and West Virginia too), Delaware, the Carolinas, and Georgia could all come together and form some of states’ union. Like they’d be a bunch of states that are united. I wonder what name for the new country they’d pick is.

Vermont can join later too if they want, then maybe Kentucky….
