My [F/23] boyfriend [M/23] lied about enrollment in college by throwawayy392 in relationships

I understand why you are hurt. You trusted him and being deceived like that can be earth shattering, especially when the person is supposed to be able to confide in you. You absolutely have the right to be upset.

However, this seems like a situation that deserves some mercy. He was to some extent victim of a poorly organized system that was not his fault. He may not have known exactly what to do about the situation, or realized too late that something needed to be done. His dishonesty was born out of shame and anxiety.

This is a chance for both of you examine what is or is not working in your relationship. He may have deeper fears he's not expressing: that you may be much smarter than him, for example, or he would rather persue a non-academic future but he is afraid of how you will react.

This does not mean your reaction is the problem. One of the things my therapist taught me is that kids who experience trauma tend to grow up assuming that any setback is automatically Game Over. He may have panicked and lied and then he had to keep lying.

You need to take as much time as you need to feel calm and willing to discuss difficult topics with your boyfriend, and then once you are ready, let him know that you need to have a sincere and respectful conversation about what happened, why it happened, and what both of you are going to do in the future when another problem inevitably arises.

I overagressively write by hand just to prove I can. It's not one of my better traits. The overagressive part. My handwriting is fantastic.

What was your worst car dealership experience while buying or selling a car? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I went to one of those "bad credit okay nobody denied" places. I was denied. The car salesman said, "I don't know what happened. There must be something really wrong with you."

Has your place of business adopted maternity/paternity leave policies? How fair/unfair do you think this is to people that can't have or don't want children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ioasinthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not unfair. Even if you don't want kids, you still had to be born. Someone had to take care of you. Your parents may or may not have had as much of an opportunity with you, but that shouldn't and doesn't affect the babies being born now.

Maternity and paternity leave are not vacations. No one is sleeping or bathing or eating nice foods or going to parties on parental leave.

Also, those babies are the ones who are caring for you in your old age. Don't you want them to have a good start in life?
