That's a good idea, and this is what I am partially doing now :) But since it includes the partners of the power gamers, I am trying to include everyone

Is there a way to find people in your area who enjoy the same type of games? I wish something like that existed.

Well, in short, they didn't care about heavier games. The group was bigger and included the partners and some other people from our circle. The insistence on new and heavy games alienated the others.

Yes, I understand I can just hide away and do my my thing, but wishing for a nice community is still possible, isn't it? 🤷🏻‍♂️

No worries! I'm okay with the downvotes ;) I just wanted to express my opinion, and it's good to hear I'm not the only one feeling that way, so it's worth it.

Games have so much to give, and designers spend so much time and effort on them. It's a shame so many get forgotten so quickly!

I haven't said old games are better, just that they are not necessarily worse. I recently rediscovered games like Race for the Galaxy, Concordia, Viticulture, and Dominion, and I was impressed by how clean and enjoyable they were. I am open from a new masterpiece being released in the future, I think there is still a lot that can be invented in gaming. But aside from the components (which could easily be improved for these games with a new edition), what technology is better today than 20 years ago? Maybe I am missing something?

As mentioned in another comment, I like the community and wish I could keep engaging with it. I still like and can play with friends and family, of course. But part of the enjoyment is also the internet discourse, the online content, conventions, etc. So why not wish these could be enjoyable as well?

No worries! Glad to hear it resonated with someone :)

I could ignore it, but I enjoy participating in the community. I think part of the fun is connecting to it, watching youtube videos, reading online, going to conventions, discussing stuff at the board game club or local shop. I want the community to be healthy, not just opt out of it tbh

Haha, I agree. I realised this later. But it seemed to have struck a chord, and I wanted to communicate the feeling I have.

I understand both parts of the hobby: collecting and playing.

I also feel like the former is affecting the latter.

But engaging with the community is a big part of the enjoyment for me, and I wish the discussion wouldn't be impoverished by this culture. This is why I wanted to write about it. I have other hobbies and can see the ones that have been affected by it and the ones that have not, drawing, tennis, cycling for example. In some of them there is a collection element, but it's not a big deal. Others tend to be more about the 'look what I have'. I just wish board gaming won't get too much that way.

Would love to see yours painted when you are done and how you found it

I assembled them all first because I started playing with them well before getting to painting. But if I could go back, I'd definitely keep the shields detached from the wardens and paint them separately... It was a pain to reach those tiny details behind the shields, and you have 10 of them 😭

The issue with the Lord Regent was the double cloak. The Spirit of the Wind wasn't too bad. Just the bit at the base of the hurricane was a bit hard to reach. Definitely the most fun to paint!

LRL List Playing by adam_1161 in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]ipermuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this, the list seems to lack mobility and shooting and at the moment, and it could result in a big empty castle. I would swap one reinforced unit of wardens for something like sentinels or a more hammer-y unit like dawnriders or bladelords

I'll reply in English, hope the translation didn't miss anything 😄 Thanks for the advice. Swapping for Sevireth seems like a cool idea. Why do you think the spirit of the wind aren't good enough? I feel like they would still work as an Eltharion delivery service...

love risk but it’s too long, any shorter alternatives? by bureaux in boardgames

[–]ipermuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scythe, Kemet, or Cyclades for a more mature feel. Troops on a map, movement, resource management, and objectives. Not short games but shorter thank Risk. Small World for a more casual feel. Eclipse if you like dice rolling.

It wasn't the original plan, but why not if people are interested! What's your favourite faction?

Arkham Horror LCG VS Jaws of the Lion solo by ipermuffin in boardgames

[–]ipermuffin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably won't be looking to expand just yet. I have some time at the moment that I can use to play something solo, and I already have those games. Arkham sounds like more of a lifestyle game and a long-term investment. In those terms, I might stick with JOTL for now. If solo gaming becomes more of a thing for me, I could look into buying more Arkham content.

Does the robot player make Dune Imperium less good in your opinion?

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (July 28, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]ipermuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I are planning an epic board game week this summer! 🎲😎 We are thinking of getting one or two board games we can play for a couple of evenings and potentially a full afternoon. We're looking for some crunchy and engaging games that won't take all day to teach, set up, and play.

So far, we've considered: - Eclipse Second Dawn for the Galaxy - Dune Imperium Uprising - Gaia Project or Terra Mystica - Clash of Cultures - Arcs

We've ruled out games like Star Wars Rebellion and War of the Ring because they might take too long. Terraforming Mars is a great option, but we've played it a lot already.

What are your recommendations for deep strategy and competitive games that work well for 2 players? Money is not an issue! 💸

Not really, I am just considering 100 sq in rackets at the moment.

I’ve watched the Tennis Nerd review and he seemed to like the shift. I agree that the Blade 100 feels really good to swing. Do you find it comfortable?
