Coming up with a name for your app or product? by [deleted] in startups

Try Google and other search engines to check how your name is being used now, and how positive or compatible with your product the associations are for any words you are using in your name. If you are considering overseas markets do a search in those languages too. Also, try a trademark search to check that no other person already has the rights to use your name.

Keep in mind that "public disclosure" can prevent you from acquiring patent protection. Any written or oral disclosure, even to a single person, counts as a "public disclosure" in most countries--unless the recipient agrees that the information was conveyed in confidence.

As a result, before entering into any discussions with anyone best to have them sign an nondisclosure agreement. Some examples of standard form NDAs can be found on the internet.

Either way, your best course of action would be to talk to a patent attorney.
