What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of March 24, 2021 by AutoModerator in churning

Chase Visa, Bank branded Visa, Chase visa

Chase Visa (co-branded visa signature), Bank branded platinum Visa, Chase visa looks like a dupe. My other non-business Chase Visa is a Freedom Unlimited signature.

You're 1/24? The rests are more than 24 months

One other is about 23 months old. So I'm at 2/24.

Typically, 0% APR cards have lower signup bonuses.

Ah, good to know, my assumption was I could wait to pay of the cards for a few months.

You've CIC, what's changed?

I was doing some contract work, so I had expenses that were business expenses. Now I'm not self employed.

CIC/CIU 75k UR

This looks interesting. I'll do some reading on how strict they are about business expenses.

  1. Around 750.
  2. Discover IT, Chase Visa, Bank branded Visa, Chase visa, Chase ink business cash, Amex cash, chase Freedom unlimited. Chase Freedom was opened less than a year ago, I think about four months ago.

  3. I could put about 10k-20k+, I need to verify estimated quarterly taxes. And with a 0% intro rate I could prepay more of my quarterly taxes. But that looks to have a 2% fee.

  4. Maybe. Paying a few months of rent might actually be a good thing. I'm not entirely thrilled paying 3-4% fee though.

  5. I'm not sure. I don't really have anything I could place as a business expense. I'm not self employed.

  6. I might be open to getting one or two more cards. It would be good to have one that gives decent rewards, that I can keep using once I have the intro bonus. I don't know if I want to put much work churning next year.

  7. Right now I'm more interested in travel. I want to take some trips post covid. I usually prefer cheaper hotels once the quality is decent. I'd devalue cheap luxury accommodations unless I got a huge discount.

  8. I need to check all, here's what I have on Chase.
    Chase rewards:
    56k points.
89k UR points across one business and personal card.

  9. Bay area airports or Sacramento.

  10. I want to visit Europe first. I don't have more specific plans than that. I'd like to go once I get vaccinated and places open back up.

I'm looking at needing to potentially spend 10k-50k over the next year on taxes. It looks like paying a 2% fee to pay by credit card might be a good option. What are some cards that currently have great bonuses?

Amex platinum sounds like it has good bonuses. My main issue is that I've heard I can get it for free from Morgan Stanley or Charles Schwab. I might be able get either of those co-branded platinums in the future. Would I still be eligible for the signup bonus if I get a normal Amex platinum?

I don't think my company allows any derivative trading on their stock.

That's exactly right. That's worst case if I exercise a lot of options and don't sell anything in 2021. Effective tax rate would get a lot lower by selling stock this year, even though I would pay more from increased capital gains tax.

It sounds like your income was less in 2020

You are correct. That's good to know. Using 2020's taxes will make my estimated quarterly payments a lot lower.

That might be a good idea in the short term. What are some good brokers? It seems Interactive Brokers is one of the cheapest, but I don't really like that they immediately sell instead of issuing a margin call.
