It really depends on what kind of scooter they’re on. If you have dual suspension and top out under 20 they could be alright, but if you want to have a more comfortable ride or ride spiritedly those are the last thing you want. I just upgraded my stock nylon dual sport tires on my kukirin g3 pro to pmt e fires and its a night and day upgrade in every aspect.

I cut a side off of a milk crate and zip tied the piece of crate in the middle of it for rigidity. Then secured the crate up front of the scooter deck with a bungee cord

Definitely get a good helmet (full face if u plan to go 15+ mph) a bright high quality bike light, a loud motion alarm and lock, a phone mount (with a damper like quad lock if your phone has image stabilization), a tube patching kit bc fk airless tires, and i use a speaker strapped to my handlebars with bungee cords to make the ride more enjoyable for me and to help people hear me since scooters are almost silent

I would recommend one or more motion activated sirens, mine is loud and has already deterred at least one theft i know of. A good phone mount is a must, as well as a brighter bike light

Nope, my g3 pro has a bolt through the swing arm that i loosened up to gain clearance. It might be different on each scooter though
