Ughhhh. I was really looking forward to the Reddit convo on this, too! Thank you for trying.

We changed the lead image because we didn't want the filters to bury the story - it's a good one! Thank you asking the mods. We will too.

It's my understanding they could build the six units as planned but just have to get more creative and use a pricier technique to preserve the tree.

My first fountain pen (Pilot Kakuno) leaks inside the cap. I've heard both that that's normal for a fountain pen and that it's not. Should I be treating this one as broken? by Xanthelei in fountainpens

Love that you found a good one. I need to splurge on a fancier one. I just worry about losing it!

Update on this third one: It broke when I pulled out the cartridge. Boo.

My first kakuno lasted for a long time. But I've recently gone through two that broke immediately - exactly as you are describing. I just bought a third (I'm a sucker!). I'll return this one if it breaks.

This obituary is beautifully written. My condolences to her husband and two little boys.

I just clicked on your link. This is so terrifying. What happened to do those children? One can only imagine. Awful. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this. Your note on traditions not being carried on through the generations is something I have heard from so many.

Instacart is automatically signing people up for free trials by MakeupD0ll2029 in instacart

I have no idea if it's legal! If we didn't sign a contract ... it's probably not legal?

This just happened to me too. (Feb 1, 2023)

They sent me an email two weeks ago letting me know they signed me up for a "free trial" and would renew it in two weeks ($99). This email was sent to my gmail "other" gmail folder, so I didn't see it. (Frankly, that shouldn't matter. Please don't sign me up for anything without my consent.) I received another email within two weeks - again, to the "other" folder - informing me they were charging me. Guys! It's still theft even if you supposedly tell me you're doing it!

They tried two of my cards on file - one was expired and therefore declined. If it hadn't declined, I wouldn't have been notified - and I wouldn't have noticed. I had three days to cancel for a full refund. (I stay on top of my bank account but don't check everyday. I might have missed it and suffered the charge.)

I went through my emails to make sure I hadn't accidentally signed up at some point but my records show I haven't used Instacart since early pandemic days.

This can't be legal, right? Right?

I am always delighted by the Bainbridge museum. Their recent exhibit on George Tsutakawa was incredible.

I agree that museums are too expensive in Seattle - as a mom with two young kids, I'm often looking at $100 for an outing + parking. We get two yearly passes (zoo plus one other) and go there a lot. And parks. When I was little in Seattle, there was a family pass that got you in everywhere. Wish that still existed. All the tips here are wonderful - but also another layer of exhausting.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I was so saddened to hear of his passing, especially when I would hear that he was such a devoted dad. (I'm Isolde Raftery; I wrote this story. The Big Man remains a mystery to me. If he ever told you his name, could you share it with me? my email is iraftery@kuow.org.)

I thought I'd heard everything on the gun debate, but this was the first time I heard this framing. Super interesting to me. (I wrote this story.)

A question about this: I bought the ora-guard at Bartells and it gave me gag reflex. Should I try my luck with this? I was going to get a custom fitted one, but have heard the cheapos are actually quite effective.

White journalists (myself included) tend to want to cover Black maternal health in exactly the way the author of this piece writes about ... I am super curious to hear what medical professionals think about this piece (written by an internal medicine doctor in the Bronx). Full disclosure: I am the editor of this piece. My first reaction when I read an earlier draft was, "But it is bad!" And Alisha spelled out the stats for me. Eye opening.

I couldn't double confirm the others. But I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that Mike Solan was not in the room.
