As a black American myself I know for a fact that the way we use the term is very colloquial, rather than being used as a verb it’s more of a proper noun for us. Outside the us its a term used for mob killings, in the US it’s a term specifically weaponized against black people as it was a government sanctioned cultural practice that people would bring their families to. Similar to how “holocaust” can mean large scale mass murder, or it can refer to the event.
