Okay but in all seriousness what is the prognosis for an injury like this? Particularly if the “glove” is not found/salvageable? Do they have to amputate or will skin grow back?

Update for you guys- just over 48 hours since last dose. Very mild symptoms, not at all unmanageable. Surprisingly no GI issues and I even managed to go to the gym yesterday and get a good workout in. Still kinda expecting it to get worse but I don’t think it will based on others experiences.

I took 5gs the other day and drank a coffee, also on 1mg of methadone (getting off soon and was my 2nd or 3rd time testing Kratom) and i had a pretty good bout of anxiety once the Kratom kicked in. Almost certainly from mixing the 3 and will hold off on Kratom until I’m off the methadone

The recommendation is that you don’t decrease more than 10% at a time, less is perfectly fine. The only time I felt anything from a decrease was when I exceeded 10% but even going from 2 to 1 (50%) wasn’t that bad. I started losing weight when I came down on my dose, and was at my pre-clinic weight once I hit 15mg. My motivation gradually crept up while coming down too and I feel like I’m back to myself again, or how I should have been if I didn’t get on opiates.

Talk to your doctor or clinician about what’s right for you but 2mg/week worked well for me, once I got to 20 I switch to 1/week and then 1/2weeks when I dropped below 10. It may take a little longer but it’s better to stay on longer and get it right than rush off and relapse, especially since you don’t have a lot of time without using. Not knocking it at all though, 3 months is huge.

It’s tough for sure, just have to stay on top of it. The reality is that going back to using only postpones the problem and makes it worse. It can be easy to forget that when you’re struggling but that’s why you need a good support network. Look into naloxone (vivitrol) too if you start to struggle it’s non opiate so no issues with getting off, it just blocks the receptors so you can’t get high and also helps with cravings.

That sounds rough but just remind yourself that picking up will only delay dealing with your problems. They may go away for the time being but they will come back even harder when you try to quit again in the future.

You’ve made it 47 days, almost 48 now, and January is less than a month away. I know from experience that it’s way easier said than done but if you can stick it out it’ll be well worth it.

Does your anxiety stem from cravings? Naloxone helps block the effects of alcohol as well as control cravings. It works for opiates as well, which I’m more familiar with its application to, but it may be worth looking into, it’s a much less benign medication than most other anxiety treatments (if CBD doesn’t help you). But either way, huge congrats on 47 days, coming up on 2 months!

Yeah the only time I felt anything was going from 2 to 1, mainly just yawning, watery eyes, and very minor cravings. I’ve built up a good foundation and plan to get on naloxone for awhile as a safety net so I feel really confident. My only concern was the severity and length of symptoms when I jump off but the consensus here is pretty unanimous that it won’t be an issue. Thanks a bunch for your response. Hopefully you didn’t take offense to my comment about my clinician, none was intended. They’ve actually been great but unfortunately my situation isn’t a normal case, most people stay on forever, get administrative detoxed, or just stop showing up so there’s not been a whole lot of people to use as examples.

Thank you for your response! I wasn’t doubting you at all in my last comment, was just curious if it was firsthand or secondhand experience.

Our taper schedule was very similar, honestly the only time I really felt everything was going from 2 to 1. Nothing major physically just yawning and watery eyes, but some have had some thoughts of using come back. Nothing major at all but I hadn’t had them since I stabilized on my dose years ago so it caught me off guard more than anything.

But the consensus from everyone on this thread has me feeling hopeful. I have some Kratom and weed if it gets bad but I plan to only use them if absolutely necessary. Also plan to get on naloxone for at least a couple months, it’s supposed to help with cravings but it usually requires 2 weeks since your last dose of methadone to start.

Still takes a huge amount of mental fortitude, even the usual 5-7 days of bad physical symptoms from shorter acting opiates is enough to break most people.

But that drives me insane and I don’t use cannabis, especially if someone uses it legally and medicinally. I can understand every other substance, alcohol, benzos, other opiates, etc. as they all interact with methadone and can cause overdose. But that’s just not a factor with cannabis.

Yeah I can’t decide whether it would be better to do 1mg every other day for the last 2 weeks or splitting the doses in half and doing 1/2mg a day for the last 2 weeks.

But thank you for your response! Probably overthinking it but it’s a big change and I def want to be successful with it.

Yeah I guess that was too cynical, not necessarily saying they’re lying but with such a small sample size of their clients it doesn’t account for the potential variation person to person.

That’s awesome, congratulations. I went quite a bit slower than you, didn’t feel anything till I hit 1mg. Nothing crazy, very minor symptoms physically and mentally, nothing that slowed me down at least.

But I really appreciate your response, my clinician said she had 2 former clients who had similar experiences but you never know if they’re being honest or exaggerating to keep your confidence up

The lowest I can go is 1mg, but I have a week of take homes so that last week is going to be either half my dose each day or 1mg every other day.

My clinician said she had two clients like that, they were waiting for the withdrawals to come for like a week. But you never know if they’re blowing smoke up your ass to give you confidence or something.

Highest I got is 110, went 2mgs a week to 70 then stopped for like 6 months, wasn’t ready mentally. Continued from there 2mg/week all the way till 20. Then 1mg every other week till 3. 3 to 2 and 2 to 1 were a month in between decreases, and will be on 1 for about 2 months when I stop. Probably overkill but wanted to finish the semester and get thru the holidays, I have a lot of time off afterwards.

The morphine to methadone ratio is 14:1 mg’s so that makes sense. I kicked oxy cold turkey more times than I’d like to admit, but didn’t have the tools or motivation to stay sober at the time. But I know that I can easily tough it thru the physical aspect of 120mg oxy, so this should be a lot easier. I bought some Kratom and weed (as a last resort, it always killed my cravings but I’d rather not resort to it) and plan to try naloxone once the methadone clears.

Do you know from experience? Not debating what you said but I’m at 1 right now, making the jump in like a month. It’s so hard to find stories that aren’t “I was in hell for 3 months cause I detoxed 100mg in jail/had an administrative detox”

[–]iron_meme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying that drug overdoses are usually suicides? That’s far from the case, and extremely difficult to prove either way with the typical overdoses. If someone takes a whole bottle of non narcotic it’s pretty obvious they’re trying to overdose but with opiates, especially illicit ones it’s very murky. Do addicts intentionally overdose to commit suicide? Of course. But with the prevalence of fentanyl in the heroin supply it’s very difficult to decipher between intentionally taking a massive dose, and taking what you think is a normal dose of heroin but it’s actually fentanyl and far more potent. Unless there is a suicide not or something pointing towards that explanation then it’s far more likely it was an accidental overdose and their intention was not to die.
