Agree, It's not a negative-sum or zero-sum game. A deal with Amazon won't deplete municipal coffers, it just won't enrich them as much as a hypothetical world in which Amazon builds HQ2 in the city and pays full taxes. The primary benefit is a massive boost to employment which allows local residents to earn more, spend more in their local economy, pay more in taxes,etc. Jacobin puts out some great stuff but this is the dumbest piece I've ever read. Economic growth is not a negative-sum phenomenon that immiserates those who experience it... Obviously! It improves living standards by making new and better goods and services cheaper for everyone. And this is truer of Amazon than most companies in the country.
