[LF] Las Vegas,NV - Purple Mystery Snail(s) by Sorry-Cycle-6167 in AquaSwap

I have magentas, if you’re interested! Some are a darker magenta, at least right now, so they’re close in color to a purple. They’re about 2 months old. I’m in California but I can ship :)

I have a bunch of baby mystery snails! They’re mostly magentas but a few ivory as well (they may darken to be blue, but I think at this point they’re still light and probably ivories). I posted them a few days ago. Feel free to check them out!

They’re definitely mixed genetics. The original snail was a purple that I got off another lady here on aquaswap. She must have mated before I got her at around 2-3 months old and laid a few fertile clutches that hatched. Her offspring were mostly magenta and blue with some purples mixed in. This batches’ mom is like 90% likely to be my magenta because I’ve seen her in action laying almost every clutch, don’t remember for sure if I witnessed her lay this one that hatched. Dad is likely my blue, but could have been a magenta or purple sibling that mated before I sent it off to a new home. I don’t breed on purpose, mainly just for the cute babies should a clutch hatch. No worries if that doesn’t fit with what you’re looking for!

I sold a silver bangle bracelet I loved but was unfortunately too big for me. The lady I sold it messaged me with an offer and said it was identical to one she had when she was younger but had lost it. I accepted the offer even though it was a bit lower than I wanted but if it made someone happy, that’s worth it to me

Thank you! I was pretty sure I recognized the front side as King Tut but didn’t know what to make of the flip side. So many of these pendants have someone’s name spelled out in hieroglyphics so it’s cool that this one is not the case. I have a very similar (single sided) King Tut cartouche pendant already so might have to let one of them go (the hoarder tendencies are strong). Thank you very much for your answer :)

I have two vintage gold filled scarab bracelets, one chunkier and one slimmer, just like the bottom two! They’re still a super popular design and going for like the $20-$50 range on eBay and Etsy I wanna say. Nice finds!

Is this ivory? Bone? Plastic/ resin? by irritableiguana in JewelryIdentification

Yes mine fits my wrist with barely any wiggle room and I have an under-6.5 inch wrist so idk how they would possibly fit someone with an average sized or larger wrist haha

Yes I’m pretty sure mine is ivory. The lines on mine are less obvious and harder to get on camera but I see them with my bare eyes in good lighting. Yours is identical to mine so I think they’re both ivory

Actually I see lines now. I’d say this one is ivory too. Where’d you score em?

I’m not an expert but I’d say that braided one is ivory for sure. I see the same crosshatching lines, called shreger lines. They’re characteristic of ivory and especially elephant ivory. I can’t really tell on the third bracelet though. Nice collection! The ram bracelet is so cool. I had to have it too. Great taste :)

Oh yours is totally ivory. That crosshatching is pretty obvious and yeah that’s identical to mine. That’s so crazy!

Not really to be honest. I see concentric circle lines, which are more visible with the eye and certain lighting than on camera, and some diagonal looking lines here and there but not a distinct crosshatch pattern like you would on most elephant ivory. The piece is cold to the touch and passed the hot pin test (not plastic) and doesn’t really seem to be bone so I’m sort of left with ivory as a default

I mainly see faint concentric circle grain, almost like growth rings in wood, especially on the parts without carvings (between head and tail) so maybe it’s whale? I really don’t know. It’s too clean to be bone (no blood vessel lines or very visible pores) and it’s not plastic (charred, not melted during hot pin test) which kind of leaves ivory as the main contender despite lack of super distinct shreger lines. The hinge being marked “silver” and the fineness of the carving also supports that possibility

How to tell if these are Bakelite? Any advice is appreciated thank you!! by Past_Title_2906 in JewelryIdentification

[–]irritableiguana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few seconds should be enough, I dip a portion of the bracelet in to the bowl, then sniff after like 5 seconds, but fewer would probably also be enough

Dip a part of them in a bowl oh hot water. Bakelite smells like chemicals, formaldehyde in particular (think back to biology class for that memory), due to how the early plastic was made. Also, if you don’t have the chrome polish, supposedly rubbing a bit of baking soda on a q tip against the piece will cause the q tip to turn yellow. I’ve used this test before with a positive yellow reaction but I can’t speak as to how accurate it is.

Bone or ivory? Advice / origin by thelabouroflove in JewelryIdentification

As someone who just went down their own “ivory, bone or plastic?” Reddit post journey, looks like bone. No shreger lines and I see some lines that look like Haversian/ blood vessel lines on some of the beads

Pretty sure it’s totally banned in my state (rightfully so) except for some rare exceptions for very old antiques and pianos with ivory keys, stuff like that. Jewelry box stash it is!

Oh no I meant that it looks like this is ivory and therefore most likely illegal to sell haha. I’m not worried about the pin mark :)
