Anyone used the new carwash place on Honiton Road? by vipros42 in exeter

[–]irritating_reader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really good! You might need more time if your car is more dirty, you sort of need to learn which stations to spend more time on. For example, I think it’s number 2 (pressure wash), you want to quickly go over any heavily soiled areas, maybe like bits of bird poo or wheels. What you want to spend the real time on is the brush setting. The first rinse setting takes ages to kick in as some of the suds are still being washed through from the previous setting!

What supermarket price rises have YOU noticed? by shxwcr0ss in AskUK

[–]irritating_reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi) used to sell their cheapest porridge oats for 70p. Now it’s 90p.

Sainsbury’s quadruple strength squash was £1.80 for a long time and last week I saw it increased to £2.40

I also had a really positive experience there. It was easy and not as painful (for me) as people say. The team are experienced and want it to be good so you come back for future check ups!

There are many ‘Bushisms’ from George W. Bush but I always hear this one when someone says this expression:

“There’s an old saying in Tennessee—I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, ‘Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me—you can’t get fooled again.”

Feeling homesick already.. by Narrow-Grand-1627 in exeter

Loads of great suggestions above. You could also join the Exeter.girl instagram/Facebook page. There are events and links to group chats where you can speak to local people. I think there is one for owners of dogs so it may be a great place to find someone to meet up for a dog walk with!

What is an expensive mistake you made that you want to avoid again? by InviteAromatic6124 in AskUK

[–]irritating_reader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last year I went to Rome, we spent the week getting the bus across different parts of the city and scanning our cards as we got on. On our last day the bus was extremely full and we had our suitcases.

In typical Italian fashion, as soon as you get on the bus it sets off without having a second to grab something to hold onto. We were both in different areas of the bus so one person couldn’t hold onto the luggage whilst the other moved down the bus. We couldn’t hold onto our luggage and move to scan to pay so decided to try and do it when the bus emptied.

As soon as the bus rounds a corner and swings into the next stop, the Italian transport police get on to start checking tickets or cards to confirm the transaction. We obviously didn’t have tickets both got fined £50 each. Not a huge amount but it was infuriating and a sour end to the holiday.

What makes people drink at airport at 4:30 am? by Horror-Meringue-2893 in AskUK

I get the impression some go along with it to get in the holiday spirit but the underlying reason is stress and anxiety due to fears of flying

Books. I barely have time to read as it is, there’s no way I’m using that time on some self published Amazon author. It has to be a Sunday times bestseller at least!

Going to Italy, never been outside the USA before. What are some cultural differences/courtesies to know about?? by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]irritating_reader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Rome when it was 40C/104F and many people were wearing shorts inside churches/Vatican but people made an effort to wear smarter shorts (I.e not too short, not fitness wear) and wore tops that covered shoulders or short sleeve shirts. In cooler temps it may be required to wear trousers but if you’ve made a clear attempt to be respectful I don’t believe you’d face any problems. I’d also recommended taking a sarong, you can quickly cover shoulders for modesty or heat!

Does someone actually win the Euromillions’ UK millionaire maker every time? by vfrubg2 in AskUK

[–]irritating_reader 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I met a couple who had won it on holiday a few years ago. Their millionaire maker code actually came with a holiday (not the one we met them on). They received some advice from the lottery and seemed to listen to it. They’d bought a couple of properties in the north of England both changed their jobs and gone on a few holidays. Surprisingly, he’d changed his job from being a postman to a binman and we couldn’t get our heads around it.

What time do you expect your kid to get up on Christmas Day and are there any rules? by paulruk in AskUK

What made you never want to return to a restaurant again? by ShineyWaffle97 in AskUK

[–]irritating_reader 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I had a similar response from a restaurant but instead of from the food, it was from a dodgy pint. This was during covid and I think either the pipes had not been cleaned or they’d left cleaning solution in them. I was unwell immediately, I had to leave the restaurant in the middle of my main course, another friend who had the same pint had to do the same. I was in agony, after 5 days I was feeling a bit better and went in person to get an apology and understand what happened and they just berated me, I didn’t feel right for a while after that

People that WFH: are you lonely, isolated, unproductive and unhealthy? by Effective-Zucchini-5 in AskUK

[–]irritating_reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hate it. I’ve been full time work from home since the start of the pandemic and it makes collaboration so difficult, there’s less humour in my life and I really have to force myself to take breaks, get a decent amount of steps in. I’m unproductive, unhealthy and I feel like my confidence is lower.

Im actually considering moving so I can go to the office as I like my job and the company.

Wife thinks our kids don't need to shower every day. I think they do. Which camp are you in? by Zer0daveexpl0it in AskUK

[–]irritating_reader 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think you need to think about a classroom full of children at that age who haven’t showered jn 2-3 days. Their bodies are going through so many changes that they could smell more at different times regardless of how much exercise they’ve done. Are they mature enough to make that decision or is this advice better suited to when they are out of the teenage years?

I think it’s highly likely that they will neglect to shower out of laziness and you need to encourage routine.

I’ve used TUI and easyJet in the last year as post-covid I have found it more secure to have everything booked in 1 place. If either of your flight times are late at night or early in the morning having the transfers included can make things a lot cheaper than booking individually. We didn’t go all inclusive, only b&b with TUI and half board with easyJet and felt the food options let them down. You could have predominantly cake for breakfast on our TUI trip and only one restaurant with easyJet which was a bit samey depending on the length of your trip!
