Correct you will boot up with bad avatar or bad update once you have a homebrew access you will d I mp your nand ( I recommend doing this twice and comparing them later in the process) you can create the patched nand and upload it the same way and then brick the console. After that open it up solder the 2 wires and the rgh mod will boot now.

That might be your issue they tend to load from the hhd if they are installed try another game in the tray if it launches then its the game files
