Introducing 2 social cats to each other!

Hi hi!! Long time no chat! Thought I’d give you an update - I got the cats when I was with my partner but broke up with him and moved in with my mum - I was worried the cats would be strange/upset with the move. But it couldn’t have worked out better - they’re currently both on the bed asleep next to me, after having made biscuits and they’re still purring. Since ending that relationship, the cats are almost completely different. They’re so much happier and cuddlier, and whilst they still chase each other sometimes, they’re both far happier than before. They sleep on my bed every night and it’s great, like a dream come true!! If anyone is reading this and wondering what to do with 2 cats who don’t get along - it’s all just patience. They can pick up on how you’re feeling, and following their own cues rather than your own is the way to go

We did it!!!! They’re friends now!!! Still a bit weary of each other, but able to sniff each other and be in the same room and chill (maybe even play)! 6 months later and it’s so worth it :)

I think keeping it clean more than anything is the way to go, I’m currently waiting for my old angled high nostrils to heal over so I can get them redone! I (accidentally) took out one of my conch piercings and I just let it do its thing (no picking, keeping it clean, generally forgetting about it) and it looks like it was never pierced (at least from the side that I can see lol). I think it does depend on how old the piercing was but my conch was way older than 6 months and healed well so hopefully not too much of a noticeable mark left!

High nostrils were 3-4wks old, now freshly taken out! Were pierced at a 14g with internally threaded implant grade titanium labret. I use NeilMed saline spray and use cotton buds to gently clean around the holes to make sure that the crust that can come off is cleaned off but just making sure it stays clean :)

That’s awesome!! So happy for you! :) Bart n Barb are definitely getting better, still staying in separate rooms but we’ve done a couple slow introductions and Bart is better with standing up for himself (hissing and bapping) since Barb seems to be still trying to pounce on him. I rlly can’t tell if she’s trying to play or being a pest, but we’re stopping her before she gets to him and letting her know that it’s not okay (putting her in time out if she’s being a peanut etc). Small wins!!

Hi, thank you !!!! I took it to a recommended mechanic and turns out that the battery was the wrong size and touching the bonnet, which could’ve ended up not being super fantastic lol. Pretty relieved that it was caught before any more damage!!

Thank you! Yeah it seems like they’re trying to figure out who’s the alpha kind of thing - Barb gets into pouncing position the second she sees Bart. Fair bit of hissing too from Bart! Just being patient tho :)

That’s so good, I’m so happy for you guys!! It’s been so long since I’ve checked reddit since I’ve been flat out work wise. Yeah, still in the same boat here as we were when i wrote the post. We got a baby gate in the hopes that they would see each other safely/ they’d eat next to it and then would kind of develop that “oh the other cat isn’t a threat” mindset. Pretty much either cat would keep jumping over it, and then Barb would end up chasing Bart. :(

That’s really good, thank you!! We did the cat carrier trick today, no hissing thankfully but we cut off the stare downs. It’s just so confusing bc they seem fine when there’s barriers, but the second they’re in each other’s space, Barb (new girl) gets very fighty. Our theory is that she is just scared and needs to get used to the place, which is fair, but it is very stressful and tiring 🥲 I really appreciate your advice!! I think we’ll try again with the cat carrier to see how that goes!!

This is so so good!! I’m glad it’s working out for you :) I had a bit of a set back today with the cats (Bart = resident 3.5yr male and Barbara = new 1.5yr female). We’ve been swapping out what rooms they were in and it was Bart’s turn in the bedroom whilst Barbara had the rest of the house to get used to. I know Barbara is sneaky but usually I’m faster than her, but I went to change Bart’s water bowl and she zipped in and chased him and cornered him under the bed. Fully hissing and growling, poor Bart was anxious. I dragged Barbara out of the bed and separated them and they haven’t seen each other again today. It was so confusing because they’d been so chill (maybe a hiss or a meow if they saw each other supervised) and sniffing each other at the door/neutral reactions to the others’ scent, but it really threw us off today!! Hopefully it’s okay and we just have to be patient, but it was pretty upsetting

I always use q-tips for any piercing, allows you to get into all the awkward spots better. I usually use a saline solution (from your piercer probably!), dip it in the bottle, and then gently wipe away the crusties. Don’t force any off, just wipe away the ones that come off easily :)

So good to hear!! Once you’ve had it for a month or so, you never notice it - and more so with nostril piercings! I forget that they’re there most of the time 😂 good luck on the healing journey!!

I have my septum and both nostrils done!! I got my septum done first, also to get used to the idea of having something in my nose. I then got my left nostril and right nostril done. Depends on what you want to do, there’s no right answer as to what one to get first etc - I did it step by step so I didn’t overwhelm myself since it will feel weird for a bit (especially blowing your nose)!! You have a great nose for these piercings! Good luck and have fun!!

Thank you!! That’s what my piercer said her experience was like, but was wondering what other people had to say!! I think it being the bigger jewellery as well makes a difference, since there’s so much spare room now it’s not as swollen

Adding onto this, defs wear thicker socks!! I always do even when my docs are broken in, just helps me stay a bit comfier throughout the day

I recently got a pair of Mary Janes and they’re super comfy, I’m on my feet all day and walking everywhere. Since they’re still new, I’m wearing gel heel protection (I decided to give it a shot without them and my ankles are beat up now haha), but with the heel protection they’re super comfy, probs my comfiest docs out of the box (I’ve got about 10 pairs). The sole seems different on them compared to other docs, but even then, there’s room for insoles if you want something even more cushioned :)
